From the sunny Gold Coast comes the dark electronic duo, Tesla Coils, comprised of Jed A. Wolters and Chris Dennis. Tesla Coils released their five track EP Emergence of the Cosmic Monolith in 2016.
Eyes introduces the well-produced sound of this EP, with synth, huge drums and a catchy guitar hook. With an apparent influence of 80s synth pop and new wave, the low and moody vocals describe a fascinating, train of thought style tale that feels a little like a sci-fi short story.
The introduction to Parasite sounds even more retro, this song (or should I say auditory journey?) has clear psychedelic and 80’s pop elements.
Creature begins with layered vocals, a huge beat and even bigger synth. This track feels like a groovy, electronic, heavy, blues-rock song and features an amazing synth solo.
Terminal is more laid-back and emotional, with touching lyrics. The chorus feels anthemic, although menacing, in a manner similar to Pink Floyd’s track Another Brick in the Wall.
The final track Evolved features surreal ‘Quirk’ lyricism at its’ finest and the music supports the mood brilliantly with a heavy and eerie feel.
Lovers of all things interesting, bizarre, thoughtful and different will love Tesla Coils. This synth-heavy EP showcases the duo’s song writing/musical prowess, imagination and creative ability.
