After debuting last night on triple j’s Good Nights, Sophisticated Dingo are thrilled to return with their new single Wasted – the follow up to their fan favourite July release Day In The Life. The new release was recorded with producer Sam Swain (RAT!hammock, Josh Cashman) at Sunset Pig in Collingwood, Victoria.
“‘Wasted’ is about insecurity building up and boiling over to make life more difficult than it needs to be,” says vocalist and guitarist Lewis Matte. “Whether it is a fear of difference in opinion, waiting for someone else to say all that is playing on your mind, or not making a move until a sign from above appears, none of this indecision leaves you feeling good about yourself and can even cause friction with others if they can feel you holding back.”
Written at the start of 2021 in between headline tour dates across the country, Wasted “captures the energy and inspiration of that moment in the sun between Melbourne lockdowns, and the now enduring inability to practice, perform, and even push on with plans relying on the unknown that lies ahead.”
During that“moment in the sun”, Sophisticated Dingo performed to four sold out Corner Hotel crowds in support of PressClub and BeddyRays respectively, as well as selling out their own headline shows at The Tote and The Leadbeater, alongside a national co-headline tour with Raised As Wolves.
While their plans to tour interstate in the second half of this year had to take the back seat, it’s safe to say that Sophisticated Dingo have found the silver lining in an otherwise tumultuous year. Their latest single Day In The Life landed their first triple j add, a spot as Rage’s ‘Wild One’ music video, airplay and an interview on commercial radio station Triple M, and a 5 star review from triple j’s Richard Kingsmill. Coupled with multiple Spotify playlist additions, a triple j Unearthed video premiere, and coverage from the likes of Ticketmaster Blog, The Music, AAA Backstage, LiveWire AU, MILKY and more, childhood best mates Jimmy and Lew are set to continue winning over fans new and old with Wasted and a promise of plenty more to come through 2022.
