Fresh from the recent release of her debut EP, today Ash Lune bounces through with a brand new single and video Sugarcoat. A tinkling, playful track the accompanying video takes the viewer through a series of dreamscapes.
Sugarcoat was co-written with Sam de Jong (Pale Waves, Robinson, Rudimental), who also produced the track.
“Sugarcoat shows a side of me that not many people know exists, which is cool. I wrote this song with Sam de Jong over Zoom, and I was so nervous because I was already a fan of his work and it was overwhelming that he wanted to have a session with me. When we wrote this song, I was in the library/study room of a student accommodation in the city. There was barely any noise so I thought it would be perfect and professional. Now when I look back at that moment, I think about all the students I might’ve disturbed writing that song. Sugarcoat started off as one song and ended as a whole other song. I like how it started but I loved how it ended,” says Ash Lune of the track.
She continues about the video which was directed by Ash Lim “It’s a very interesting video about dreamscapes. Each set to me was an alternate dimension. We really wanted to do something abstract and show you all the different versions of Ash Lune, instead of keeping it unidimensional. I think you definitely see a lot more of my personality in this video. We all had a great time shooting this video.”
The Mumbai born, Brisbane-based artist released her debut EP, ‘Broken Science Experiments’ last month. Featuring singles Sleepwalk, Panic At The Party, and Before the EP was produced and co-written with Tom Eggert (Sloane Peterson, Vancouver Sleep Clinic), mixed by Mark Rankin (QOTSA, Adele) and mastered by Chris Gehringer at Sterling Sound New York.
Since her appearance on the music scene in 2021, Ash Lune has won fans from the likes of Notion, The Forty-Five, Rolling Stone India, DIY and more. Her music has received airplay from across the world including Jack Saunders at Radio 1 UK, and KCRW in the USA.
Although deeply contemporary, there’s a timelessness to Lune’s music that belies its creator’s tender years. Across her music, Lune excavates the deepest recesses of her heart in order to create music that speaks to everyone, across seas, across cultures, and across all walks of life.
As we are already seeing, 2022 will be a prolific year of new music from Ash Lune and we’re here for it.
