Fueled by his rager Splendour In The Grass set and euphoric string of singles, Mickey Kojak bursts out with long-awaited album ‘Ultra’. A dopamine hit of neon-tinted tracks, ‘Ultra’ drops ahead of his loaded tour kicking off in September.
Coloured with warped guitars, mind-melting synths and gritty undertones, ‘Ultra’ sends you into a vivid-trance as Mickey unpacks a whirlpool of themes from imposter syndrome and isolation to the twisted sides of materialism.
Mickey talks through what inspired ‘Ultra’; “The majority of the album was written in the months after our first lockdown in 2020. I had just finished playing the best shows of my life and was inspired to write a whole bunch of energetic, live-focused electronic music so that when things went back to “normalâ€, the band and I would be ready to shred across the country once more.â€
Joining his acid-infused singles Club Is On Fire, Lights Out, Pull The Trigger, Broken and Take My Money, the album’s high energy opener About Time sets the glitched-out tone that is ‘Ultra’. Morphing into the fiery Lights Out followed by techno-odyssey anthem Whatever Comes Next, the track-list is crammed with infectious Mickey hooks.
Club Is On Fire turns up the heat followed by French-electro inspired Pressure, as punchy Pull The Trigger revives with its roaring intensity.
‘Ultra’’s second half includes hypnotic interlude 1800 530 530 weaving into the the warped and witty Take My Money. Rounding out the album is bass-heavy Broken, before closing with the colourful and climactic The Last Thing.
Mickey is touring from September to November across the country hitting up Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Albury, Gold Coast and Townsville, including secret bush doof Shedfest, bringing his signature synth sorcery from ‘Ultra’ to a stage near you.
