Crowned as a ‘star to watch’ by Queensland’s Sunday Mail, Jem Cassar-Daley has enjoyed an illustrious career since the release of her 2022 debut EP ‘I Don’t Know Who To Call’. Now the indie-pop sensation has revealed her brand-new track, King of Disappointment.

As the first new music since her debut EP, King of Disappointment builds on the irresistible vocal hooks and perceptive songwriting that has already earned the singer copious accolades. The hypnotic mid-tempo came to life after Jem received an all-too-common text message.

“Before heading to Sydney to write with Brendon Boney in the “resonate” program, I had a situation where my shoes were on, makeup done and I was ready to head out the door when I got a “sorry, something came up” text,” she admits.  “Instead of being sad, I decided to use it as inspiration in the studio.”

Recorded and produced in Byron Bay, the single owes its mellow guitars and infectious beat to producer, Garrett Kato“It was so great working with Garrett again, as he was one of my first ever co-writes in 2021 for the song, Letting Go, and I have loved his music for such a long time.”

Jem is a proud Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung woman who descends from a long line of storytellers. In 2022 she received awards for NIMA New Talent of the Year and QMA Indigenous Artist of the Year; was a finalist in the Smugglers of Light Foundation Music and Media AwardsNIMA Album of the YearQMA Billy Thorpe Scholarship and QMA Carol Lloyd Scholarship; was the winner of Triple J Unearthed competition to support Gang of Youths for ‘A More Perfect Union’ and was the special guest on the Thelma Plum 2022 ‘Meanjin’ tour.

With a live performance that delivers on the emotion and energy captured in her tracks, Jem is set to perform at The Great Escape Festival in the UK in May.

Jem is an awe-inspiring artist. In just two short years she’s captivated audiences around Australia with a songwriting and vocal style that appears effortless yet is truly inventive and perceptive. Her latest King of Disappointment cuts straight to the heart whilst still shining as a carefree singalong.
