With thumping drums, commanding guitars, and crushing vocals, all delivered with the guts and conviction of a band with something to prove, Melbourne / Naarm quartet Great Australian Bank are breaking the mould with their own brand of unapologetic Australian flavoured post-punk.

2024 has already seen the band drop singles In Your Eyes and What They Did as well as most recent release Don’t Call Me, ahead of the release of the band’s debut album ‘To The Dry’ on August 16th.

Recorded at Head Gap Studios in Preston, Don’t Call Me was produced, recorded and mixed by Rohan Sforcina, with mastering by Lachlan Carrick.

Now, the band are excited to premiere the music video for Don’t Call Me exclusively with Good Call Live! “Making the video was honestly so much fun. We workshopped the idea of the video with Buster Wyzenbeek before booking out a studio to record live shots of the band. In the editing process we combined those shots with a whole bunch of archival and found footage. A lot of time was spent mucking around with effects whilst being mindful of what kinds of creative decisions might have been made in the 80s, which is really similar to how we approached recording the song too. Finally, we processed the video through a bunch of VHS gear that our guitarist Pat had been working with, giving it that honest lo-fi look” says Vocalist / Guitarist Tass Coomber.

“The song is about growing up and experiencing racism in Australia. As a mixed-race person, growing up here was always difficult and I know of so many others that had similar experiences to varying degrees of harm, especially in school and such, so I’m hardly unique in that sense. But it did take a long time for me to come to terms with my identity and be proud of who I am. In terms of the music video though, it was always going to be hard to capture those themes visually! So, we opted for something that was in keeping with the 80s post-punk vibe of the song instead, going with lots of layering and effects to create something a bit psychedelic and lo-fi.” – Tass Coomber, Great Australian Bank

Formed in Melbourne in 2019, the band originally consisted of an all-Tassie expat line-up. Vocalist Tass Coomber moved to Melbourne / Naarm after a brief stint in Perth and started the band together with old friend and guitarist Pat Fielding. From there they enlisted Alex Raw on drums and former bassist Alex Barnett. They underwent some minor line-up changes before landing on Saskia Clapton (The Maggie Pills) for bass duties.

Since their inception, Great Australian Bank have earned themselves a loyal and devoted fanbase, high praise for their electric live shows, and ongoing support from radio such as RTRFM, PBS, 2SER, RRR, Radio Adelaide, 4ZZZ and 2XX.
