It’s been nearly 4 years since the world was first introduced to alt-electro-pop artist DAMIEN, and in that time they have released two full length albums, a 7 track EP and a Deluxe Album which featured remixes from a collection of other acts, including world renown producers like Zardonic and Rabbit Junk. DAMIEN has garnered local and international praise and been compared to a broad variety of prominent acts including Depeche Mode, Gorillaz and Regurgitator.

Now, 12 months since their last original offering, DAMIEN returns with the brand new single, I Don’t Listen To The Radio, which takes a bold, brighter direction in comparison to DAMIEN’s previous album, ‘Candidate For The Abyss’.

The move to a more upbeat mood was reflective of their own personal growth. “I have been wrestling with depression, and existential doubts over my own existence and identity for years,” DAMIEN said, “And this has come through quite obviously in previous releases. But there is also a part of me that is able to find immense joy and laughter in life, and that is able to shrug aside the eternal pressures and worries of daily living and find pleasure in simple things, and I wanted to give more voice to that part of me through the net body of work, because I think, more than ever, I need more happiness in my life and reasons to smile.”

I Don’t Listen to the Radio is musically a lot of fun, but also gives a very direct insight into where I get my music from. Many of my friends are musicians, and most of them write brilliant songs that if nought for shear luck and circumstances could be world wide hits. I’m tired of being force fed imported pop from the USA and UK and being told that ‘this or that artist is a celebrity that I’m supposed to know and adore’. It’s all a big con. We have exceptional talent in our own backyard, and I am finding I am enjoying discovering the music of the people within my own community, people I can meet with, drink with and laugh with, way more than I enjoy getting swept up in the marketing hype of the artists getting pushed on commercial radio or viral social media channels.”

“I am finding that I am most happy when I give myself the power and permission to turn off the global noise and return to the beauty and significance of my local community, and ultimately that is more important for my own well being than trying to compete with or get noticed by the faceless masses across the planet”.
