Breakbeats, guitar, and a heavenly scream from an iconic Australian voice. Sydney locals and Australian electronic dance duo Hellcat Speedracer have dropped the first taste of their forthcoming debut EP. Receiving it’s First Play on triple j Drive with Tyrone and Abby, Daybreak, an electronic punk breakbeat techno fest, featuring good friends and local legends, DZ Deathrays.

Hellcat Speedracer have already been testing the waters, playing Daybreak for their fans on their current national tour. Most recently, DZ Deathrays‘ frontman Shane Parsons jumped on stage at The Landsdowne Hotel, Sydney for a live version. The Daybreak Single Tour will continue over the next few months, including live appearances at BIGSOUND, Yours and Owls Festival, and Big Pineapple Festival.

Daybreak Feat. DZ Deathrays is a hard-hitting ode to a time when dance music and rave warehouse parties were a melting pot of techno and rock – sweaty and loud, speakers shaking, a world of total euphoria – that inspires you to keep grinding through the day, month or year.

Hellcat Speedracer share “…With its angry chant, we are pleading for the party to never end, and we want all our friends along for the ride. We want this song to be an infectious war cry that rekindles the fire beneath the party, that sets alight to the dance floor. Daybreak demonstrates a no person left behind energy. With the cross blending of genres, we want this to highlight that a Hellcat Speedracer party is for everyone.”

Shane from DZ Deathrays adds… “I’m so keen to have this track see the light of day. It’s hard out, electronic punk, a very fun song to make and we actually went through quite a few versions until we landed on the right vibe for the song. I feel like it’s hectic in the best way possible and looking forward to seeing if the boys do an extended mix!”

Hellcat Speedracer and DZ Deathrays have been mates for a long time and have always thrown around the idea of collaborating one day. Daybreak was born out of Sydney studio and smashed out in one day of recording. Angry and fun, with a 90s flare and production style, Oli from Hellcat Speedracer says, “The first moment we heard Shane belt out his iconic scream, Alex and I both looked at each other with so much excitement. Grabbing a couple of beers afterwards at The Shakespeare Hotel was great to delve into each other’s process and celebrate the tune we wrote together. And ultimately, this whole process – feels super special to be creating music with talented people. Something we both dreamed of for years,”

Daybreak follows Hellcat Speedracer’s recent hero moment, where they answered the call-out from triple j looking for DJs to play on air following the infamous Microsoft “Blue Screen of Death”. Hellcat Speedracer have already been making a mark with singles Collide, Tomorrow 1988 and their recent futuristic and addictive single Lovestruck and the hard-hitting mixtape ‘Melomaniac 001’ EP.

The duo has enjoyed not only successful headline tours across Australia, including sold-out shows and appearances at Splendour In The Grass, and Rhythm & Vines in New Zealand, but have been filling rooms with wild DJ sets at house parties in their hometown.
