Melbourne’s Rock Princess Terra Rouge is raising the middle finger and breaking back into the scene with her newest single, Couch Song, released today.
For the unacquainted, Terra Rouge has been performing since 2019, supported by her brat pack of girls ever since they were in high school together. Since then, Terra Rouge has been selling out shows across Melbourne and debuting on her first Australia-wide tour earlier this year. With heaps planned for the rest of the year and beyond, Terra Rouge is worth keeping an eye on.
Don’t let the name of this track fool you– this song is anything but lazy, with energetic guitar chords and metallic drums melting together with Terra’s tender voice and biting lyrics to become a nostalgic alt-rock trip. Channelling classic garage rock, this song features heavy, amped-up instrumentals and cutting cuss words that contrast and compliment Terra Rouge’s emotive voice like sugar and spice.
With crass language, a repetitive refrain, and a voice dripping with emotion, Couch Song is a “fuck you” anthem to an ex, and realising how much better life is without them. This kickass, energetic song is a dose of bittersweet empowerment, perfect for belting feelings out at full volume.
