After performances at Splendour In The Grass and Creekfest, plus the release of their debut EP in March, Yamba folk duo Alivan Blu have today delighted their loyal fan base with new music, unveiling sand-soaked new single Southern Sun, which is out today.

A soul-soothing tune about new beginnings, Southern Sun details vocalist Anna Stanton’s journey to Australia as a teenager – plucking up the courage to leave her old life behind and start something completely new.

“When I was 17, I packed a backpack and my surfboard and migrated to Australia by myself, leaving all my friends and family behind,” Anna says. â€œThe song represents the emotions of missing them and the realisation of how young I was when I completely shifted my life around. Writing this song was the first time I truly reflected on my experiences and left me wondering where I might be now if I’d stayed in the UK.”

Recorded by Tim Goodburn, Southern Sun incorporates a warm, fuller scale production, as the song progresses through an emotional journey both lyrically and musically.

Although it’s a new direction for Alivan Blu, fans will be delighted to finally hear the studio version, with the song becoming a staple of the band’s set for a while now.

“This new song definitely comes across with a bit more alt rock and progressive elements to it as opposed to singer-songwriter” Anna explains. “It is definitely our biggest song so far and highly anticipated from our listeners, having played this song live on our last 2 tours.”

Having just about wrapped up a tour with The Dreggs throughout the UK and Europe, Alivan Blu are set to return to home soil with a batch of new experiences and stories, aiming to inspire people to step outside of their own comfort zones and live life to its absolute fullest.
