After a period of three years writing and performing with a new line-up, BB Sabina are now ready to make a statement with new single Multitude. A sprawling journey of shimmering, driving synth textures, atmospheric bass and unyielding drums, the track incorporates aspects of synthwave, trip hop, post-rock and electronica, immersing listeners in a hypnotic world of sound.

Written as a defiant assertion against the idea of being conveniently classified or characterized, haunting vocal tracks are layered upon one another, singing out their proclamation and reinforcing the multi-faceted nature of identity. While the sound and style of BB Sabina is not easy to pigeonhole, it is this originality that falls in line with their identity and the message they are trying to convey within their music.

“The song explores what it means to contain many facets and contradictions and to be in a constant state of flux – the beauty and magic of this. It’s a reflection on queerness, gender and beyond. The song feels like a strong statement about who I am. How I don’t easily fit into a box, and feeling uncomfortable when someone tries to put me in a box, how this can feel so limiting.” – Beth Uhe

Songwriter Beth Uhe originally formed BB Sabina in the Northern Territory, recording their debut EP in Mparntwe / Alice Springs and releasing it in 2019 while living there. She moved back to Naarm / Melbourne in 2020 and began to experiment with new sounds and textures. After lockdowns were over, Beth was keen to put a band together and start releasing and performing music again. Warrick Newman was introduced thanks to an ad calling for a bassist, and Travis Germaine was soon recruited on drums as he and Warrick had been jamming together. The three have since become a tight unit, bonding over a mutual love of Bjork, Portishead, Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Suicide and PJ Harvey, performing now for three years together and becoming close friends in the process.

Initial tracking for Multitude was done at Kakadu Studios. It was engineered by Warrick with assistance from Sean Hutton. It was produced by BB Sabina, with mixing by Aden Senycia and mastering by Joe Carra at Crystal Mastering.
