Naarm / Melbourne shoegaze / dream-pop outfit Blue Vedder have today returned with their brand new single and first new music of 2024, Freaking Out. The new track’s soaring chorus and delicate balance of light and shade will be complemented by a music video directed by Melbourne filmmaker Bryce TM, set to be released next week.
A long-time favourite in the band’s live set, Freaking Out was put through its paces in the studio to become what it is today. “It’s a song about feeling frustration and confusion, someone who might be struggling to grasp reality again,” reveals vocalist and guitarist Seth Hancock. “We spent a lot of time crafting the song and trying to express the emotion I was feeling at the time. The song reflects Blue Vedder’s original sound with guitar pads, and shoegazey guitar sections, but is infused with more rock guitar and catchy lines, and influences from artists including Wolf Alice, Radiohead, and Ride.”
Blue Vedder celebrated the end of 2023 with appearances at Yours & Owls Festival and the Ballarat leg of Spilt Milk, after releasing their captivating single Leather. The song debuted on triple j Unearthed where it was swiftly added to rotation, followed by a spin on triple j’s Home & Hosed and features from Frankie Magazine, The AU Review, Happy Mag, Beat and more. Blue Vedder celebrated the release of Leather with a packed-out hometown launch show at Melbourne’s Bergy Bandroom.
