Today, the multi-faceted creative force BOY SODA opens a new chapter and returns with the first taste of new music in 2023, SIP via Warner Music Australia.
Opening with the lyrics “pay attention, time is fleeting”, BOY SODA commands listeners through a futuristic lens of RNB. The bouncy production complements the playful lyrics as he explores knowing your limits when it comes to continually turning to your vices as a coping mechanism.
“SIP started in a session with Rob & Pip where I asked them to show me their weirdest samples, and sounds they loved and were secretly hoping people would pick. We ended up finding the bass line just by itself that Pip had made previously and I had a physical reaction where my shoulders bounced and I made a stank face so they both immediately said ‘we’re doing this one!’. The song lives in this intoxicated sonic space and speaks to people’s vices, and the relationship between having fun and knowing your limits. It’s an ode to trying to make conscious decisions when you’re too wavy.” Says BOY SODA of the track.
SIP follows the launch of his collaborative new series in partnership with Converse, “SODA SESSIONS”, which is dedicated to unreleased music and artist-to-artist conversation. Teaming up with fellow artists Cyrus, Billy Maree, Ruby Jackson and BoomChild, this series will see the talented musician, songwriter and producer performing brand new music from the vault and have a discussion about culture, influence, process, philosophies, and taste.
2022 was a big year for BOY SODA that saw him release his debut EP ‘THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THINKING AND FEELING’ and the follow-up mixtape ‘YC-TAPE: Vol. 1’, which was a triumphant gear switch that cemented the Sydneysider’s ambition to innovate beyond the confinements of RnB. He opened for Seth Sentry on his national tour, showcased at BIGSOUND, and had his single BIG featured on Netflix’s global hit show Heartbreak High. Steering into 2023, BOY SODA has continued that trajectory by conducting a co-headlining tour with Taj Ralph, performed at Live Nation’s Ones To Watch event in Melbourne, and participated in APRA AMCOS’ Songhubs in New Zealand.
