Canadian punk-rock outfit PUP are returning Down Under for the first time since 2022. Headlining cities in Australia and New Zealand this August, the Toronto-based band will be celebrating the release of their fifth studio album ‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’, out 2 May 2025.
Alongside the tour announcement, the band share another ripper track from their upcoming album entitled Get Dumber featuring long-time buddy and collaborator Jeff Rosenstock.
On the scathing Get Dumber with backing vocals and unintentionally flubbed lyrics from Jeff Rosenstock, PUP is classically searing in all the best ways.
PUP Frontman Stefan Babcock says of the song, “I wrote ‘Get Dumber’ in Jeff’s basement. I was house sitting for him while he was on tour. I recorded the first demo for it on his guitar using his mics and his computer. Maybe because the ghost of Jeff was in the room with me, I always imagined our voices on this song together, so I was very happy when he agreed to sing on it.
“We recorded the vocals together, in the same room, facing each other. What that means is, we both had to nail it at the same time because we couldn’t really cut between takes. On the first take, he forgot a line in the second verse and said “ahhhhhh, lyrics” instead. I couldn’t finish the take because I was laughing too hard. Anyway, he practiced singing the correct lyrics but then we decided those lyrics kinda sucked and he should just stick to “ahhhh lyrics” because it’s funny and the song is called Get Dumber. We nailed it on the second take.”
New Zealand fans will get the chance to see PUP at the Tuning Fork in Auckland and Wellington’s San Fran, before they headline Australian cities including Brisbane’s Princess Theatre, Sydney’s Metro Theatre, Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre, Hindley Street Music Hall in Adelaide and Perth’s Magnet House.
Set to play crowd favourites from their catalogue of anthems including ‘PUP’ (2014), ‘The Dream Is Over’ (2016), ‘Morbid Stuff’ (2019) and ‘THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND’ (2022), they’ll also be performing new gems from their forthcoming album ‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’
Their pummelling and cathartic fifth LP ‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’ is a culmination of the band’s past decade of constant touring and their palpable, livewire chemistry. Excavating life’s relationships and deep thoughts, the 12-track album sees frontman Stefan Babcock at his most reflective and vulnerable.
Don’t miss PUP live in Australia and New Zealand this August.
