Produced by Harry Verity of Verity Music Studios, and mastered by Paul Blakey from 12th and Vine Post, Oh, Mother is the beginning of a new era for Gabrielle Kerr.

A poisonous ballad about feminine rage, Oh Mother turns the tables, and asks dark hypotheticals all in the sweetest voice. Oh, Mother is a must-listen for fans of Hozier and Florence and the Machine.

“This song came from one of the darkest sepulchres in my mind, a cruel and twisted thing. Wrought from the frustration and pain of witnessing in the news, in the history books, woman after woman hurt and killed by male violence. I asked myself the worst: If I was as privileged, as powerful as a man… would I be a good man?”

The song is screaming contradiction of itself, the dark lyrics are juxtaposed with woody and melodic fingerpicked guitar. Soaring into a howling and haunting amalgam of strings and choral harmonies, ringing and dulcet, before that final question is asked.

“I wanted it to have layers; a deceptiveness on first listen that can only be seen through on repeat listenings when the lyrics are properly studied”, says Kerr of the track.

Hailing from Kabi Kabi Country, the strange raconteur is an old soul watching this new world spin. Her introspective lyrics will draw you in as the songbird’s melodies are crowed with hints of folk, rock, Celtic, and blues.

Painting vignettes of feminine wrath or other such ‘unseemly’ emotions; her music is coloured by her love of mythology, poetry, and theatre. Telling tales of life, death and all things in between, Gabrielle Kerr cut her teeth competing in the country music competition circuit as a child and teenager. Performing at festivals such as the Gympie Music Muster, the Urban Festival and various other community run festivals and competitions, time and experience led her from her country roots and transmuted her into the dark folk songstress she is today. In recent years, Kerr has put Small Halls Festival and Tamworth Festival along with many local haunts under her belt.

Monsters, a song of self-acceptance, was Gabrielle’s first TV placement on American-Canadian comedy-drama, You Me Her. Secured after she received a Nashville songwriting scholarship during her Bachelor of Popular Music at the Queensland Conservatorium.

In the time since her last release, ‘The Truth of Flowers’, she has honed her craft and ventured further into the wilds of her mind drawing poetry from blooded soil and melodies from the hollows in her soul. Oh, Mother is just the beginning or a new era of viciously authentic anthems.
