Adelaide-raised and now Sydney-based singer, songwriter and producer Kyle Charles Hall, returns after 2 years with new track, see i’m OK, the first instalment of his sophomore EP ‘my head is a jungle in a deforestation way’.
Completely self-produced, this track welcomes listeners into a DIY indie-rock soundscape that carries a theatrical tone. It also comes alongside the energetic music video which brings the song to life in a charismatic, nostalgia soaked vision. Inspired by Dominic Fike, The 1975, and Last Dinosaurs, see i’m OK gives a layered sonic palette that feels just as conversational as its accompanying lyricism. Unravelling an inner-monologue of thoughts post-breakup, KCH tries to convince everyone around him he’s doing okay with a little wink that fails to cover the truth. There’s a cheekiness to his music that contrasts an honesty that is always ingrained in the heart of the song.
“It came at a time when I felt I didn’t know myself, nor where I was going. I had just moved to Sydney where I only had a couple friends, I was going through a break up from a long term relationship and I was learning what it was to have those around you grow old. I wanted to write something that would validate my hurt whilst championing my sense of self. Through this tough time, see i’m OK became a centre point in my life that made me proud to be who I was and excited for the future”
Kyle is creating music to make you feel like you’re living a 2000’s coming of age film. Starting his career as the lead singer of Adelaide based band, Runaway Weekend. Their 2016 debut EP ‘Deja Vu’ followed a national tour supporting Chase Atlantic which helped them build a dedicated fanbase that later saw them selling out multiple dates on their headline EP tour. Post RW, Kyle has re-introduced himself to listeners as a solo artist and quickly turning ears with an anthemic pop sensibility. Garnering over 300k streams with only eight songs in his discography, he’s just stroked a starting line of what’s to come. The catalogue has seen him receive consistent airplay from triple j and triple j unearthed, as well as media acclaim from The AU Review, Scenestr, Ben Madden, and AAA Backstage.
Following the release of in love, 23 in 2022, Kyle has taken 2 years off to build what has now become an incredibly distinct sound. Teasing the return in October 2023 with a sold out headline show at Oxford Art Factory for UniTunes, he’s been cooking the final pieces of the new chapter. His relationship between songwriting and production are so closely aligned that his sound feels overwhelmingly intimate and personal whilst still maintaining its anthemic pop sensibility.
