Beginning what promises to be an unforgettable year, British born, LA-based singer songwriter Laurel today shares new single entitled Wild Things and reveals second studio album ‘PALPITATIONS’, due for release on 14 June via Communion Records.
The latest track, Wild Things, showcases Laurel’s striking vocal prowess and introspective lyricism as she passionately sings of “chasing troubles” and searching for “the real thing”. Balancing the serious with the playful, the single beams with an anthemic feel – a summer-ready cut of polished pop glory. The song sets the tone for the record as Laurel offers a glimpse of the deeply personal songwriting and powerful vocals at the heart of the album. With themes of love, freedom, vulnerability, and embracing your authentic self while keeping it light with catchy pop sonics throughout, Laurel delivers 12 tracks of pop brilliance on ‘PALPITATIONS’, all filtered through a haze of complex-yet-relatable emotions.
Of the meaning behind the song and the record, Laurel reveals, “Running to the ends of the world to find ‘the real thing’ – something that feels true – but everywhere you go you’re still searching. You can’t find it because what you’re looking for in the world can only be found within you – inner peace. Each song on my record can be felt as a palpitation. A moment of angst, adrenaline, love, sorrow, heartache, euphoria. Emotions that are so strong that they make your heart skip a beat.”
The music video directed by Elliott Ardnt finds Laurel basking in sunsets and dancing through deserts, in a haze of dreamy, cinematic colour and futuristic visuals. Laurel celebrates letting go and being a Wild Thing, as she enjoys the moment for what it is without any expectations or societal pressures.
Coming in hot on the heels of a sold-out intimate showcase celebrating her new creative era at London’s Oslo on 29 February, 2024 is gearing up for what promises to be an unforgettable year for Laurel – a moment where she’ll finally step up to the pop throne.
Having previously supported the likes of MØ, Oh Wonder, Rag & Bone Man, and KT Tunstall on tour, Laurel also featured on Flume’s critically acclaimed album ‘Palaces’, and joined the musician on the main stage at Coachella 2022 and continued to perform with the Australian DJ across tastemaker stages throughout the year. The songstress also finds herself wrapped up in the fashion world, having previously collaborated with esteemed brands such as Burberry, Ganni, Vivienne Westwood and many more.
