The team behind Zang! Records is excited to announce the launch of a brand-new festival, That Sound Over The Fence.
After years of releasing music and contributing to the beloved and now retired Sonic Masala Festival, the team is back with a new day of community gathering.
In 2024, Zang! is eager to embrace a new chapter “We sought a fresh challenge and a name that could fully encapsulate the essence of what the festival had evolved into—a community event that unites diverse local music scenes in unwavering support of the radio station that has been a backbone for us all,” elaborated festival co-creator Branko Cosic on the festival’s evolution.
Thus, That Sound Over The Fence was born—a term that encapsulates a sound coming from another direction that is instinctively attractive and the determination to find out where it is emanating from. The rebrand signifies a new chapter, embracing the festival’s growth while maintaining its community-centric ethos. Jack McDonnell, festival co-creator, commented, “That Sound Over The Fence captures what we love about the Brisbane scene. There are so many different sounds and communities but they are only a fence hop away from finding something great. Brisbane does a mixed bill better than anywhere else and we want to celebrate everyone catching up together and sharing our beautiful scene.”
Cosic added “There is so much good music happening out there and the community is strong, we just want a chance for everyone to catch up and feel a part of the scene while enjoying some great bands and supporting community radio!”
The festival will raise funds for 4ZZZ, which helps to keep the community radio station alive and on the air.
That Sound Over The Fence is proud to announce its 2024 event, taking place on Saturday, August 17 at The Triffid, Meanjin/Brisbane. The festival boasts an exciting lineup featuring Yirinda and an array of talented artists from New South Wales and beyond, including Adjoa, ARSE (NSW), Ben Ely’s Mungo Fungo Band, Chimers (NSW), Craning, Fenrir, Fleur Fatale, Holding Pattern, Hott Sexx, Joe Hanmer, Keep On Dancins, Locust Revival, Lunar Dirt, Lurid Orb, Sacred Hearts, and Totally Unicorn (NSW).
