Rising Australian pop artist Oliver Cronin has today announced that his new EP ‘Halfway To Paradise’ will be released on Thursday 3 October via Warner Music Australia.
Oliver has also teamed up with 2023 ARIA nominated Charley, for the playful new single Girl Next Door which hears them both vying for the same girl. A jubilant pop track helmed by two of Australia’s latest pop visionaries, it feels fresh, exciting, and bursting with energy. Intertwined with brooding production and big synths, this song provides an anthemic soundscape that feels like a true centre-piece on the upcoming EP. It’s accompanied by a playful music video, directed by Kyle Caulfield that brings the cheeky storyline to life.
“I’ve been wanting to work with Charley on a track for years and when I finished the verse I knew I had to hit her up to jump on. I found it really cool to show a love triangle with a twist, and when she sent me back her verse I knew it would take the track to the next level. The music video was so much fun, and working with Kyle was a breeze.” says Oliver of the song.
“Oliver sent me this song a couple months ago and asked me to put a verse on it if I liked it. Turns out I loved it, and we wrote the rest of the song together and made it about wanting the same girl! I love how much of a duet it is, especially when the bridge hits. And side note, I have loved working with Oliver so much, he’s such a goofy lil superstar and it’s rare to find people that lift you up as a human and match your fun side which is so important when making music. Have to remember it’s a fun process instead of being too serious about it.” says Charley of working with Oliver.
‘Halfway to Paradise’ represents his personal and artistic evolution since the release of his debut EP, ‘Beautiful Nightmare’. “My life has changed in so many ways and I’ve grown a lot as an artist and a person since ‘Beautiful Nightmare’ and I think this EP is a reflection of that,” he shares. The new EP encapsulates his experiences and growth, offering listeners a deeper insight into his journey. Alongside Girl Next Door the eclectic collection features the recent singles, the vulnerable In The End, the propulsive Burning House, and the dark and distorting Hello Goodbye.
With over 31.5 million combined streams, and 500K monthly listeners on Spotify alone, it’s safe to say that Oliver Cronin has all ears turned towards him right now. 2024 has been a whirlwind year for him so far which began with his sold out debut headline tour and was then heightened by partnering with Warner Records globally, working with the team that has propelled artists like Teddy Swims, Benson Boone, and Zach Bryan to stardom. The partnership was solidified during an extensive promotional trip in April which also saw him co-write with Trinidad James (Uptown Funk), attend Coachella, and perform showcases in Toronto and Berlin. He then travelled to Singapore to perform at Music Matters and returned to Australia just in time to attend Australian Fashion Week, where he graced the PE Nation, Mastani, and Injury shows. Earlier this month he travelled to Malaysia for a songwriting camp, before returning to Asia last week for a promo trip in the Philippines which saw him performing In The End on breakfast TV, as well as performing at YouTube Music Nights in Hong Kong. He was also nominated for Best New Artist at the Shure Rolling Stone Awards. Oliver has also been busy collaborating, and recently shared Her with Joel Fletcher which followed his other viral EDM crossover, 1,2,3 with Topic.
This all comes off the back of breakout 2023 which saw multiple viral successes with his TikTok remixes and livestreams that have seen him amass over 782K followers on the app. Interpretations of songs like Paint The Town Red by Doja Cat, Escapism by RAYE, and 3:15 (Breathe) by Russ have introduced him to a whole new audience, while his livestreams have seen him creating new music and candidly showing viewers his creative process. He shared a couple of singles including the hypnotic Speed Bump and the tropical-pop collaboration I Need You with Lil Xxel which highlighted a well-crafted sound and an excitement to experiment. He also dropped the three-track EP ‘after midnight (demos)’ which was a collection of unfinished demos he’s written on live streams and ones fans were requesting. He featured on Connor Price’s viral track RUBY, and Canadian rising star Lum’s Temptation. On the touring front he opened for Nessa Barrett on her sold out Australian tour and performed at SXSW Sydney.
2022 saw him release his debut EP ‘Beautiful Nightmare’ which featured Boys Don’t Cry, a standout moment that has amassed over 10 million streams after it resonated with audiences on TikTok. In the process, it reached numerous corner of the globe hitting Spotify’s Viral Charts in Germany (#9), Czech Republic (#20), and Austria (#54), and most recently had a resurgence in 2024 with it climbing to #27 on the Spotify Viral Chart in Nigeria, and #8 on the Shazam Chart in India, as well as climbing the Shazam charts across Africa.
