Gold-Coast based alternative rock artist Ollie Twohill has released his highly anticipated debut EP, ‘Calamity!’, a
powerful collection of genre blending tracks that captures the emotional turbulence, personal struggles, and
hard-earned resilience that define the human experience.
Blending alternative rock, hard rock, metalcore and folk influences, ‘Calamity!’ delivers an unfiltered journey through addiction, fear, betrayal, ambition and survival. Across five emotionally charged tracks, Twohill combines deeply personal songwriting with vivid storytelling, creating a release that feels both intensely personal and universally relatable.
The EP weaves together high-energy instrumentation and unfiltered emotion into a gripping narrative of perseverance through turmoil. Opening with Crisis, an explosive anthem, fuelled by frustration and angst, is a rebellious “F**** you” to the world’s madness. Rosary Beads, released earlier this year, follows with a gripping, story-driven account of battling
addiction and mental health.
Captive then ventures into a dark fictional territory, telling a story of catastrophic fallout when a man is mistakenly taken captive by a woman on the hunt for a government agent. Rupture delivers a hard-hitting reflection on betrayal and the collapse of relationships, whatever they may be; friendship, romance or family, the closer people are to you the more a betrayal can hurt. While Atychiphobia offers an honest glimpse into the journey of chasing a dream while maturing and growing from an artist’s perspective.
With a solid blend of real life experiences, storytelling, and high energy musicianship, ‘Calamity!’ marks an ambitious and compelling debut from an artist unafraid to confront life’s darkest moments head on.
“I feel like ‘Calamity’ is a great encapsulation of the chaotic state of our existence,” says Twohill. “To me calamity is the destructive tendencies displayed within our human nature, society and our impact on the world.”
Known for his ability to connect deeply with audiences through honest lyricism and emotionally driven live performances, Twohill has steadily built his reputation across Australia’s independent music scene. His recent releases have gained strong support with both media and fan engagement through both streaming and social media engagement. His growing list of achievements in recent years includes performing on stage with Stand Atlantic at their Gold Coast show in 2025, main support for Murray and the Movers at their Gold Coast show in 2026, main support for Internationally awarded songwriter Parker at his Gold Coast show in 2026. Ollie also has secured finalist placements in the Garage Deluxe Band Competition and Passport to Airlie Byron Bay, alongside multiple podium finishes at the Australian National Busking Championships, Stanthorpe and Murwillumbah Battle of the Bands. He has also shared stages with acclaimed Australian artists in performances and as a support including Budjerah, The Buckleys, Kyle Lionhart, Tay Oskee, Kim Churchill and Ash Grunwald.
