Gold Coast-based duo Paper Daisies step confidently into the spotlight with their breathtaking debut single, Heartbreakin’ Cowboy, a track that immediately establishes their rich, full sound and displays their assured, emotionally resonant songwriting. With impeccable instrumentation and vocals placed firmly at the forefront, the song showcases the jaw-dropping harmonies and captivating performances of
Britt Grey and Rhea Robertson.

Expertly blending the emotional depth of country and singer-songwriter traditions with polished pop sensibilities, Heartbreakin’ Cowboy feels warm, open, and instantly accessible. It’s a song that invites listeners in and lingers long after that final note. “We headed into writing with the idea of creating something that felt like the end of a really good day,” they explain. “Music that kind of wraps itself around you and settles in your chest, like that lingering, hazy feeling of golden hour.”

At their core, Paper Daisies are driven by storytelling. Whether drawing from  intimate, fleeting moments between people or broader shared experiences, their  music reflects a deep fascination with narratives that resonate; personal or universal, big or small.

Heartbreakin’ Cowboy was born from one such story. Inspired by a conversation with a friend entangled in an all-too-familiar romantic situation, the song captures the bittersweet humour and ache of chasing someone just out of reach. The result is a track that perfectly balances swooning hope with quiet self-awareness, a tribute to anyone who’s ever fallen for someone they could never quite have.

Paper Daisies as a project grew from a decade-long friendship between Grey and Robertson, a bond that deeply informs their creative process. “We know each other’s stories, we’ve lived through things together, and that depth of connection finds its way into everything we create,” they say. “We’re drawing from a shared well of experience, and we bring a perspective that is genuinely and unapologetically female.”

Heartbreakin’ Cowboy was recorded at Love Street Studios in Currumbin. It was co-written with Bradley Green who also contributed most of the instrumentation. It was produced and mixed by Scott French, with mastering by Angus ‘Agnus’ Hawkey.
