Brimming with bright chords, alt-country twang, and the kind of joyous, sparkling energy that has made him such a live favourite, Seb Szabo returns today with his latest single Tangerine (All I Want).
As a self-confessed hopeless romantic, Szabo’s songs speak from the heart. Tangerine (All I Want) is another slice of honest, melodic sunshine to add to his glowing catalogue, capturing an emotionally vulnerable and somewhat pivotal moment in time for Seb. Written about a rekindled openness to falling in love after a long period of uncertainty, Seb reflects: “Like a lot of people do, I think I stopped believing that I was ever going to fall a bit in love with someone again, and then somebody came along and changed that for me unexpectedly”.
“The song started with a simple moment where I realised I was starting to sort of feel that magic again, seeing someone smoke a cigarette out their bedroom window in dim lamplight in London – just observing someone living in their own space and realising how much joy that person’s existence and presence in your life is bringing you.”
In the wake of his showstopping performances at BIGSOUND, the singer-songwriter is also thrilled to announce the ‘All I Want Is You’ tour. Set to take place this December, the tour will stop in Sydney, Canberra, and Melbourne – TICKETS HERE.
A favourite in his live sets, Tangerine’s call-and-response refrain and uplifting energy emulate the feeling of falling in love all over again. “I suppose no matter how fucked up the world is, people everywhere are still falling in love and people need songs for that feeling, maybe more than ever,” says Seb. “While this song is big and joyous and easy to dance to in a room full of people, it’s also meant to be shared with just that one person who means the most to you.”
From his widely adored house shows and vibrant city busking sets, to his own sold out headline shows and support slots (Charlie Collins, Bic Runga, Medium Build), Szabo and his band carry audiences through a heartwarming – and at times heartbreaking – rollercoaster of love and loss, and gently catch them on the other side.
