Emerging from Victoria’s Surf Coast, powerhouse alt-rockers Savage Honey return with their anthemic new single, Underdogs, a rousing tribute to the unshakable spirit of Australia’s live music scene featuring guest vocals from Jacob Finch (The Terrys).
Packed with soaring melodies, electrifying guitar work, and a chorus built for festival singalongs, Underdogs is an undeniable celebration of the people who make live music so special. “This song is dedicated to the punters, the musos, the venues, presenters and organisers who help keep the music industry such a pivotal part of our culture.”
“The inspiration behind this song came from the overall feeling we get while attending festivals. You’re so full of love and connection all you want to do is dance and lift each other up,” explains the band, continuing, “There is such a sense of love, support and encouragement to be yourself around live music in Australia and I think it’s a beautiful aspect of our culture. You always want to back the people you’re around, make new mates and encourage people to expand their horizons. I can’t help but feel there is an underdog culture lingering beneath the surface of the music industry and I think it’s so great to see the people who might not have followed the conventional path, have such an epic impact on people with their art.”
Adding to the song’s message of connection and support within the music industry, the track features Jacob Finch of The Terrys. His collaboration underscores the thriving spirit of mateship in Australia’s music scene—weaving seamlessly into the song’s heartfelt tribute to the people who make live music a transformative experience, further solidifying Underdogs as an anthem for those who believe in the power of community.
Recorded as part of their upcoming album, Underdogs took shape in the heart of nature. “The recording process was epic! We recorded all the bed tracks in a beautiful cabin down in the Otway National Park. We spent one week together playing music, visiting waterfalls, drinking beers and cooking good food. It was the best ever.” That organic, communal energy is evident in every note, capturing the feeling of pure connection that only live music can bring.
Inspired by Gang of Youths, Kings of Leon, The Vanns, and Spacey Jane, Savage Honey has already made a name for themselves with their electrifying live performances. Having shared stages with The Terrys, Pacific Avenue, Glass Beams, and Old Mervs and played major festivals, including Party in the Paddock, Beyond the Valley, and Here Comes The Sun, they’ve cemented themselves as a band to watch. Their last headline tour, which included a sold-out show at Torquay Hotel, proved the strength of their ever-growing fanbase.
