‘The Well’ is the second EP release from Scenes, the moniker of songwriter and producer Graham Ritchie. For this four-song EP, Ritchie has collaborated with artists Airling, Eliza Klatt (Eliza and The Delusionals), and Machine Age.

Singles For the Young feat. Airling and 101 feat. Eliza Klatt received praise from triple j and other outlets, and were added to editorial playlists including New Music Daily, New in Alternative and Today’s Indie Rock on Apple Music. Alongside the EP release, Scenes is releasing third single Let Yourself Love feat. Machine Age.

A prolific studio and touring musician, Ritchie has collaborated with the likes of Holy Holy, Thelma Plum, Gretta Ray, Japanese Wallpaper, Jarryd James and Big Scary. His debut EP as Scenes, ‘ID’, was released in 2021 with singles Henhouse feat. Ainslie Wills and Morse feat. Jesse Davidson receiving triple j, unearthed radio and community radio play.

‘The Well’ presents an artful blend of dreamy analogue synths and chiming guitars, anchored by resolute rhythm section playing featuring Ritchie’s Holy Holy bandmate, Ryan Strathie. The EP offers a heady mix that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly contemporary. The tracks are meticulously crafted vignettes, inviting listeners to delve into themes of memory, impermanence, and acceptance. The blurred narratives possess a haunting allure, alongside motifs of renewal and insight. Dream-like imagery is grounded by lucid mantras and reflections, from the titular refrain in newest single Let Yourself Love to the final chorus of 101, which proposes, “Well it might be alright if we’re just saying goodbye.”
