Take a deep breath of fresh air with up-and-coming singer-songwriter Sofia Gale and her new folk-pop single Playing The Game, a track that reaches for the sky.
For those not yet in the know, Sofia Gale is the 17-year-old singer-songwriter making waves throughout Perth’s folk-pop scene. Becoming known for a classic contemporary style, she’s making herself a clear part of the next generation of folk music: two of her three released singles, In Your Eyes and Laugh, have won WAM Song Of The Year awards – and Playing The Game is a fitting addition to her portfolio. She’s an active live performer on the stages of Perth, with her next performance scheduled for April 12 at the HQ Youth Wave Project.
With a voice packed with strength beyond its years, Sofia Gale delivers a heartfelt meal of music in Playing The Game. This song is built from complex and emotive multi-instrumental layers: its strong piano lines take on a defiant edge with the introduction of drums and electric guitar as the song builds.
Sofia’s powerful voice ties the track together and lets it shine as a power anthem, all about rallying against the tide and finding one’s authentic self, a hard thing to do for any teenager, let alone one trying to make her mark in the music industry.
In a constantly changing world, it can be hard for people to find themselves, especially when society pulls them in so many different directions. Playing The Game encapsulates the experience of feeling these feelings and striking out against them, making sure to stay true to herself and block out all the noise of the game of life and its ever-changing rules. When asked about the song, Sofia Gale said: “The biggest message in this song is once you learn how to play the game in your own way, that is when you win!”
