Melbourne’s Sophisticated Dingo have today shared their belting new single VCR, available now on all streaming platforms.
The release arrives ahead of the band’s run of headline shows this August, followed by their unmissable BIGSOUND debut in September.
Thematically aligned with its quick tempo, VCR is a sonic firecracker about the fast-paced and scattered motion of modern life, often requiring instant decisions with limited information. “Just as you dig into the details, all of a sudden a new problem presents itself vying for your attention yet completely unrelated to what you were trying to understand in the first place,” says frontman Lewis Matte.
“We as people are being taken advantage of in every which-way possible by companies, products, people, you name it. That’s life. Acknowledging you can’t be across everything and that you will inevitably be taken for a ride here and there is power. Factor in these taxes, enjoy the ride, and as everything goes on and on in time hopefully we will make sense of enough to forge our own paths to happiness.”
The single is Sophisticated Dingo’s third track of 2023 and follows previous single Radio On, which held a top 50 spot on triple j’s most played list for 2 months after being added to full rotation – peaking at third most played – and received airplay on BBC Radio 1’s Future Alternative.
Both tracks follow an incredible list of high notes for childhood best mates Jimmy and Lew, with multiple other singles including Morning View and Day In The Life added to rotation on triple j, snagging the coveted Unearthed Feature Artist slot, and winning the Unearthed x NIDA music video competition for their song The Job I Took. Their engaging live presence has led to the band running up an impressive tally of tours, with multiple national headline runs of their own amidst supporting the likes of Beddy Rays, Dear Seattle, The Terrys, Press Club, and Bakers Eddy.
