Today, Sydney indie rising stars Royel Otis (aka Otis Pavlovic and Royel Maddell) announce their sophomore EP, ‘Bar ‘N Grill’, out July 29 via OURNESS. Accompanying the announcement, the duo are also sharing their latest single and video, Bull Breed, which will feature on the forthcoming EP alongside their recent hit single, Oysters In My Pocket.

With Bull Breed, Royel Otis deliver another picturesque slice of guitar-laden indie mastery. Jangly chords and an upbeat drum groove serve as the perfect backdrop for Otis’ carefree vocal chants, while a warbling synth line and ear-worm vocal hook underpins the song’s feel-good chorus. It’s a hazy psych-pop hit that reinforces Royel Otis’ status as a formidable emerging force in Australian music.

Royel Otis say of the track â€œBull Breed is being youthful and naive to everyone and everything around you. Soaking up that young alpha essence. A real unruly bovine beast celebrating the small things like it’s the last night of your life. Nights where you roam from bars to pubs with your mates and you’re all just running your own show. A complete lack of inhibitions with no regrets. ‘Bull Breed’ is an anthem for all the Woo Girls and Wild Boys.”

The track also comes accompanied with a stunning music video directed by Kyle Caulfield and produced by Ady Neshoda, which sees Royel Otis run amok in a neon-lit fairground. Cutting between various rural locations, we’re taken to a nearby pen of cattle before a battled and bruised shot of the pair reveal the aftermath of their run-in.

This announcement follows on from Royel Otis’ last single Oysters In My Pocket, which has quickly amassed over 1.6 million Spotify streams and saw widespread acclaim upon release, receiving regular plays on spot addition at triple j, multiple playlist covers and community radio support around the country. In 2021, the band released their debut EP ‘Campus’, which introduced the Royel Otis as one to watch in Australia’s burgeoning indie scene. Following a stint in New York, Royel met Otis after a hazy night out in a Sydney Bar. Otis, fresh out of high school, mustered up the courage to share some of the demos he had been working on in isolation, and an instantaneous creative click soon happened. Fusing Otis’ DIY productions with his own wonky samples he’d gathered during his time in the Big Apple, the two churned out tunes in Royel’s Sydney sunroom, slowly shaping their sound.

From their home studio beginnings honing and tinkering at a sound now so distinctively their own, Royel Otis has evolved to embrace a rapturous live show. Following two sold-out headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne in April, as well as a string of performances supporting The Rubens earlier this year, the duo are now touring with Teenage Dads throughout May and June, hitting Wollongong, Newcastle, Maroochydore, Brisbane, Adelaide, Geelong, San Remo, Melbourne and Canberra. Furthermore, they’ll be backing things up on a huge support run with Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers across August and September.

Press play on Bull Breed now, a joyous slice of guitar-pop from one of Australia’s most promising songwriting forces.
