Fresh from the announce of their headline tour this August and September, The Buoys are back today with new single Holding On.

Equal parts hopeful and doubtful, Holding On showcases a softer sonic side to The Buoys, while still preserving the emotional vulnerability that has carried through every single.

The Buoys on the single: “It can be hard to know what to do when you feel someone slipping away, when in the past, this usually meant they were walking out for good. This song is about hoping that this time, it’s different.

Perhaps you used to be the kind of person that would run away or bury their head in the sand with situations like this, when it all gets too hard. While you’re hoping their intentions are different to what you’ve experienced in the past, you’re also hoping you yourself are different, and big enough and strong enough now to stick it out and get in the weeds with your true love so that it all works out in the end.

In a nutshell ‘Holding On’ is about realising you deserve happiness and that it’s not meant to be easy all the time, and you’re finally strong enough to pick up the pieces for someone who maybe can’t do that themselves right now.”

Holding On marks the final sneak peak of the band’s debut album, ‘Lustre’, out July 12. Recorded with Chris Collins in NSW’s Northern Rivers region, ‘Lustre’ features previous singles Check Mate, Subject A, Guard My Heart and Settle Petal, and thoughtfully unpacks a spectrum of emotions, life experiences and influences across a rich sonic landscape that spans indie, rock, punk, alternative and more.

Last week, The Buoys announced they are hitting the road for a national tour this August and September. Presented by triple j, the ‘Lustre’ Album Tour kicks off on August 16 at Republic Bar in Hobart before heading to Melbourne’s Corner Hotel the following evening. With shows at Brisbane’s Valley Loft, Sydney’s Factory Theatre, JIVE in Adelaide and finishing up at Jack Rabbit Slims in Perth, The Buoys continue to solidify themselves as one of the nation’s hardest working live acts.

Today’s single arrives after a huge month for The Buoys. Alongside announcing their debut album, the band performed their debut Like A Version with a cover of Olivia Rodrigo’s Vampire and their original, Check Mate, toured the UK with Vacations and performed at The Great Escape.

The Buoys blasted out of the local punk rock scene and in just a few short years, released three EPs together, playing sold-out shows across the country that have earned them a devoted following and engrained this Sydney based rock band into Australian music culture. From coming in at #85 on triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2021 with Lie To Me Again, to touring and supporting the likes of The Dandy Warhols, Soccer Mommy, Wet Leg and Ball Park Music, The Buoys themselves are devoted to playing high-octane shows, and as a result have cemented their place as an unmissable live show experience.

Over the past year alone, the band have shared stages with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, DMAs, IDLES, Royal Blood and Luke Hemmings. Most recently, The Buoys played Party In The Paddock, the Melbourne leg of Laneway Festival and Great Southern Nights.

With just three weeks until the release of ‘Lustre’, dive into Holding On today.
