Following the success of their 2024 single Pathetic, which saw them tour extensively and share the stage with the likes of Bella Amor and Bean Magazine, Meanjin/Brisbane indie-rock outfit Tomorrow’s Forecast are back with their new single Ribbons.

Diving head first into the turmoil of lost love, Ribbons captures the bittersweet desire for recognition, carried by heart-swelling guitars and a raw, emotionally charged vocal delivery. At its core, the track explores heartache and the often unrealistic hope that a broken relationship will find a way to repair itself.

“Ribbons is a track I wrote about longing for an ex-boyfriend to come back into my life after breaking my heart,” explains vocalist Bonnie. “I found myself constantly waiting for, or maybe even expecting, him to lay his cards down and finally say everything I wanted to hear. The metaphor of ‘ribbons’ ultimately signifies commitment and that although you can attempt to mend a broken bond, the ‘ribbons’ tying you together will eventually unravel.”

Recorded with Emily Hopley at Hunting Ground StudiosRibbons showcases a heavier side to the band that balances grit and vulnerability. Drawing sonic influence from the likes of BeabadoobeeMannequin Pussy and Momma, the track delves into darker territories while maintaining the band’s deeply personal style of storytelling that has kept fans coming back for more.

“We had worked with Emily on ‘Pathetic’ so it was a really comfortable experience. It is a super refreshing – and unfortunately uncommon – to work with an AFAB producer and it felt like there was an immediate connection and mutual understanding of each other’s work,” Bonnie reflects. “Emily really helped me push my vocals in a way I hadn’t pushed them before, focusing on the grit and emotion of my voice, rather than the vocal quality itself.”

Since forming on the Gold Coast, Tomorrow’s Forecast have made a name for themselves across the QLD music scene, supporting acts like Hockey DadHoly Holy and Full Flower Moon Band, as well as playing festivals like Springtime Festival and Mountain Goat Valley Crawl.

Now armed with their new single, the band is gearing up for two massive headline shows in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, offering a taste of their highly anticipated sophomore EP, due for release later this year.
