Legendary independent New York-based rock label Equal Vision and The Flatliners are excited to present Misanthropy & Me, the brand new single from the Toronto-bred punk mainstays.
Its first offering for the label, Misanthropy & Me examines a shared human condition in which hope, optimism and one’s sense of purpose begins to dissolve. The band had the following to share about the track: “Born from a familiar flame and destined to dominate a special place in your barely beating heart, we present to you an all-new anthem of apathy, ‘Misanthropy & Me’. While the fires of ‘New Ruin’ are still burning bright, the flickering light inside humanity’s head has undoubtedly dimmed. We’re here to reassure you: Your spirit’s not broken. It’s just worn out…”
Toronto-raised punk veterans The Flatliners have been making music together since before they were legal to drive, drink or vote — and their dedication to the craft that keeps their collective flame lit turns out to be rooted more in friendship than anything else.
Boasting the same line-up since 2002, guitarist and vocalist Chris Cresswell, guitarist Scott Brigham, bassist Jon Darbey, and drummer Paul Ramirez have spent the last 23 years expertly earning their dues. From dive bars and basement shows to arena stints with Weezer and being masters of the festival circuit, they’ve amassed a dedicated fanbase all through North and South America, Europe and the UK, Australia and Japan — and even beyond.
But their constant musical evolution over the years suggests that there are many miles still to go. Each time The Flatliners put pen to paper and make new music, it feels like they shed their skin and start over in a way. Not to change entirely, but to grow stronger from their past. To utilise the wisdom of their years. No strangers to expressing their commentary on the crumbling world around them, The Flatliners’ music and lyrics have become a meeting place for those in need of catharsis from the human experience.
