As she prepares to take the stage next week with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Vera Blue delivers a fresh preview to her forthcoming album ‘Modern Rituals’, released August 21st.

Receiving its first play on triple j, Vera Blue releases her new single Maze, a cinematic dance moment from her third studio album.

Expansive and euphoric, Maze captures Vera Blue in full flight, pairing her unmistakable vocal presence with glistening production and a sense of movement. The song began several years ago while Vera Blue was on tour with Flume, before slowly evolving into the final version heard today.

Maze is a song that fittingly took its own winding path into the world, Vera Blue explains; “This song really went on a bit of a journey, which feels fitting given what it’s about. I first started it a few years ago while I was on tour with Flume. In a similar way to ‘Rushing Back’, we pieced together the melodies without any idea of what the song would eventually become.”

After sitting with the foundations of the song for a number of years, Vera Blue revisited the idea and brought it into a new creative space writing lyrics alongside Nat Dunn and Jono Ma, and production by Eric J.

Vera Blue says, “We had to let it breathe for a couple of years, and eventually it found its way back to me,”

At its core, Maze is about surrender and an acceptance of absolutely everything life has to offer, and this is crystalline-clear throughout the track. The idea is not to fix, to change, or even to analyse, but to sit with the self, and to accept that sometimes, the pattern must be honoured – even if we don’t understand why.

Maze follows album tracks Rituals, Parallel Desire, In The Corner and Go Lucky, with each song holding a mirror to a separate, personal ritual of Celia excavating elements and textures of the self.

Vera Blue will return to the stage, next week joining the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall on July 11th then followed by her first headline tour since 2022 in September.

Renowned for her hypnotic and dynamic live performance, that has even seen Vera Blue perform to a crowd of 100,000 at the AFL Grand Final, Vera Blue’s headline tour will see ‘Modern Rituals’ brought to life alongside classics, Regular Touch, Hold and most recently the cover of The Temper Trap’s Sweet Disposition, featured heavily in Paramount+ Series Two Years Later.
