Today, multi platinum-selling artist, producer and rapper Winston Surfshirt shares his delicious new single, Ice Cream — an irresistible, genre-blurring heater that will have you craving more. With a sound as refreshing as its name, Ice Cream serves up a new layer to Winston’s signature style, blending sultry R&B, vibrant hip-hop and a dash of ‘80s funk into an effortlessly cool flavour.
Ice Cream is an elevation of everything Winston does best — infectious grooves and an unfiltered, take-it-or-leave-it attitude, now coupled with rolling drums, rising strings and heart-pounding stabs. Produced alongside OSWRLD, the track takes listeners on a playful sonic journey, blending between shades of the early ‘00s with ease. Whether it’s Winston’s sunny lyrics or seductive production, it’s a track that feels like a summer day — warm, carefree and undeniably fun.
Winston on Ice Cream: “I was looking for a producer to work with and got put in a room with this guy called OSWRLD. We met at his studio in Coogee for the first time, shared a spliff and got straight into it. While I was setting up my stuff, he started putting a beat together… he was messing about with the drums and sample so I was looking for something in my head to sing. I looked up and there was a big wooden sign that said ICE CREAM, so I started singing ‘Let me lick on that ice cream’.. then we flipped the music to make an opposing verse that would take you to another place. I think we were honestly moved on to another song in about 30 minutes – Oscar’s production is elite.”
Ice Cream follows Winston’s return last year with the euphoric disco-house banger Boots, which was featured on Zane Lowe’s New Music Daily, was highlighted by Apple Music as a priority track and saw love from triple j, 10 Mag, Acid Stag, AAA Backstage and The Note. The release marked Winston’s first new music since his 2022 album ‘Panna Cotta’, featuring collaborators Genesis Owusu, Talib Kweli and Kimbra. On release, the record was named triple j’s Feature Album and received widespread acclaim from the likes of GQ Australia, The Music, NME and Beat.
Winston Surfshirt began as the solo project of their eponymous frontman, singer, producer and rapper. Over time, he brought together close friends and local artists to form the globally beloved project that we know today. His extensive touring has led to sold-out shows across the UK and Europe, highlighted by iconic performances at Falls Festival, Spilt Milk, Field Day and Splendour in the Grass, with the latter immortalised on triple j’s Live At The Wireless. Through millions of streams, three dreamy albums and collaborations with the likes of Cosmo’s Midnight, Benny Sings and Channel Tres, the multi-Platinum and 4x Gold certified artist is celebrating nearly a decade of music-making, inviting fans along for the journey as he elevates and expands his sonic landscape.
