Whether lighting up stages alongside Spiderbait and Betty Taylor or feeling the warm embrace of their tight knit community at a Cozy House Party show, Meanjin quintet Worm Girlz deliver an authentic, empowering message with each lyric sung. Now with a string of releases under their belt, Worm Girlz are proud to reveal their latest fun-fuelled single Go Fishing.

Through hook-riddled drum patterns and vocal melodies that effortlessly reel the listener in, Go Fishing is an encouraging plea not to take the bait when it comes to one-sided relationships. Blending cathartic, powerful instrumentation with a touch of  ~ dramatic flair ~ Worm Girlz take no prisoners and have a damn good time doing it.

“Don’t be a drag, just go fishing! I think all toxic people literally just need to go fishing. Nothing like a natural water source and some alone time to allow for self-reflection and growth,” laughs vocalist Lauren. “A fun switch-up from our more emotionally-driven songs, Go Fishing is an upbeat crowd favourite, perfect to soundtrack your next gatho or house party.”

Recorded and mixed by Lucas Montgomery – who previously worked with the band on Cool Girl and Not My Body, the latest Worm Girlz offering proves that the band are equally as comfortable exploring deeply heartfelt themes as they are telling a narcissist to go jump in a lake. Even when adopting a more comedic tone to their music, Worm Girlz always come armed with a message and remain steadfast in standing up for what they believe in.

“We hope this song inspires people to stop letting other people run their lives! Go fishing, get away from me, you need a nap!” says guitarist Jade.

Following a series of recent shows across Queensland, Worm Girlz are now primed for a truly exciting second half of 2024, which will include an upcoming appearance at BIGSOUND. So pack the tackle box and get ready for a bunch of exciting announcements.
