Eora/Sydney-based emo pop-punk outfit A Swift Farewell have officially dropped their debut EP ‘Hollow Threats’, a six-track whirlwind of raw emotion and genre-blending intensity. Produced and mixed by Nat Sherwood (Stand Atlantic, Yours Truly, Besties) and mastered by Grant Berry at Fader Mastering (Thornhill, Static Dress).
Blending elements of emo, pop-punk, alternative rock, electronic, and metalcore, ‘Hollow Threats,’ is a six-track
journey through emotional intensity and raw vulnerability. Each track tackles a different kind of personal hardship — from battling depression, to coming out, betrayal, and one-sided relationships.
“The title ‘Hollow Threats’ comes from the line ‘Inflicted your fears in a hollow threat that I saw through’ from the track Homeless,” the band explains. “Each song holds its own meaning, but together they express the broader themes of hardship, challenges, and depression.”
The EP opens with the ambient, synth-laden I Never Wanted This…, this short but atmospheric introduction sets the tone for what lies ahead, closing abruptly with a tape-stop effect that signals the beginning of the emotional journey. That leads into Silence – with distorted guitars, pounding drums, and anguished vocals, the track encapsulates the sting of betrayal and the emotional fallout of being let down by someone you once trusted. The explosive single The Haunting feat. Amariah Cook of Future Static, delivers an eerie laughter which erupts into a relentless storm of aggressive guitars, searing vocals, and driving bass. Amariah’s feature adds a dynamic intensity, reinforcing the track’s message of the mental struggle of self-sabotage and the haunting belief that you’re not worthy of love. Following closely is the focus track Just Breathe feat. Besties, indicating the midpoint of the EP – however, the track keeps the momentum going with driving rhythms and modern take of pop-punk with metalcore-infused screams. Together, they explore the suffocating grip of depression and the desperate plea to “just breathe,” amid the chaos.
From here, the EP takes a darker turn with Hold Me Down, a melancholic yet poignant track that lowers the tempo and opens with delicate arpeggiated guitar lines. The track slowly builds into an emotional vulnerable crying chorus on full display that leads into an acoustic guitar bridge to take a break from the emotional rollercoaster.
Just as it seems the emotional ride is over, the EP ends with its most vulnerable moment: the heartbreaking closer Homeless. This piano-led ballad captures the inner conflict and exhaustion of coming out, beginning with stripped-back instrumentation and a raw, sorrowful vocal performance. As the track builds, gritty guitars and steady drums join in, mirroring the emotional weight of the lyrics. With its steady progression and lyrical clarity, Homeless, delivers a powerful, reflective finale to an EP rooted in pain, identity, and growth.
Singles off ‘Hollow Threats’ have received vast support from the likes of double j, triple j Unearthed, Dreambound, and The Elder Emo Cvlt.
