ALBUM REVIEW: All Time Low – ‘Everyone’s Talking’

Multi-platinum Maryland four-piece All Time Low return with their tenth studio album ‘Everyone’s Talking!‘, and marks a bright, confident chapter which leans into big choruses and polished pop-rock while holding onto their pop-punk roots. The record follows the punchy lead single SUCKERPUNCH, which the band road-tested in front of more than 25,000 fans at Warped Tour in June, and is accompanied by the Ramones-tinged rocker The Weather, a slyly bitter tune about skimming the surface of an old relationship instead of facing the real, messy stuff.

Released via Basement Noise Records in partnership with Photo Finish Records/Virgin Music Group, the album follows the chart-topping success of Monsters and Sleepwalking, and arrives as the band celebrates two decades of music-making.

Having shifted through pop-punk and glossy pop-rock across a career which has moved millions of albums and accumulated billions of streams, All Time Low pair their signature arena-ready hooks with sharper, sometimes darker lyrical details on ‘Everyone’s Talking!’ “We see ourselves as a current act,” says frontman Alex Gaskarth. “It would feel inauthentic to tread old ground.”

Recorded primarily in Nashville with Gaskarth and touring member Dan Swank at the production helm, and with additional sessions in Los Angeles with Grammy-nominated producer Zakk Cervini (blink-182, MGK), ‘Everyone’s Talking!’ is a masterclass in genre blending. The album finds All Time Low confident and curious, sharpening their gift for towering choruses while carving out quieter, more intimate moments which give the record emotional weight. ‘Everyone’s Talking!’ balances arena-ready hooks and polished production with enough personal detail to keep long-time fans invested, and tracks like Butterflies prove All Time Low can still write immediate singles which land on playlists and in live rooms.

Butterflies is the most recent single released off the album and is a standout track, lyrically rich with metaphor and emotional tension. The song’s gritty realism is wrapped in a rock anthem shell, making it both introspective and anthemic.

Similarly, The Weather is raw, relatable, and laced with emotional residue; it’s breakup song wrapped in awkward small talk with Gaskarth singing:

“I don’t want to talk about the weather,
Moved in with some asshole from god knows wherever…”

Lead single SUCKERPUNCH hits hard with gritty guitar riffs and a stadium-sized hook. The production is polished but never sterile; it’s layered, dynamic, and emotionally charged. Whilst other tracks like Little Bit offer a humorous yet vulnerable look into Gaskarth’s psyche, exploring the trappings of fame and the constant chase for the next high.

‘Everyone’s Talking!’ doesn’t shy away from sonic risk either; Sugar, featuring powerhouse vocalist JoJo, is a soulful, genre-blending moment and adds a fresh dynamic to the album. Gaskarth described it as a “meant-to-be” collaboration, with JoJo’s vocals elevating the emotional intensity of the track. The lyric “Quicksand city but you pulled me out” hints at themes of rescue and redemption, wrapped in a smooth, pop-rock groove. On Oh No! the chaotic urgency with punk energy gives a sense of freedom in the arrangements, as if the band gave themselves permission to explore every corner of their musical identity. It’s a high-energy track which channels classic All Time Low chaos with a modern twist.

Compared to their earlier work, like ‘Nothing Personal’ or ‘Future Hearts’, ‘Everyone’s Talking!’ is more introspective and sonically expansive. It’s less about teenage angst and more about adult disillusionment, identity, and resilience. Yet, it retains the infectious energy and melodic hooks that have always defined their sound. What makes ‘Everyone’s Talking!’ particularly compelling is its replay value. The hooks are immediate, catchy and familiar, though the emotional depth and production nuance reveal themselves gradually. It’s an album which grows with the listener, offering new insights and sonic details with each spin.

In the broader context of pop-punk’s evolution, All Time Low stands as one of the few pop-punk bands to have successfully transitioned into a mature, genre-blending act without losing their core identity. While contemporaries like Paramore and Fall Out Boy have leaned into reinvention, All Time Low’s approach is more evolutionary than revolutionary. They haven’t abandoned their roots, they’ve simply expanded them.

Everyone’s Talking! positions All Time Low not just survivors of the pop-punk boom, but as architects of its future. It’s a record which honours their past while boldly carving out new territory, proving growth doesn’t mean letting go, it means digging deeper.
