Melbourne singer-songwriter Aubany has released third single Sheer Mess, a self-portrait of vulnerability.
Aubany continues to carve out a space that’s intimate, emotionally charged, and unmistakably her own. Her third single Sheer Mess is testament to this; a self-portrait of vulnerability and tentative hope.
Sheer Mess continues the storyline of Aubany’s sophomore single Hallow (2025), in which she explores the push and pull of yearning for, yet fearing connection. “It’s written about the risk of starting a relationship, and the giddy feeling in the possibility that it may be perfect this time,” she explains.
Sheer Mess expands Aubany’s sonic identity. Having moved out of home, and with little access to a piano, her third single was composed on guitar. “I was restricted to the simple chords I could play,” she says.
With its sparse production, layered ambience, and reverb-soaked instrumentation, Sheer Mess calls the likes of Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers to mind. For listeners craving depth, authenticity, and connection, Aubany offers unwavering strength in vulnerability.
