For her first release of 2025, Emma Yue is back with a bang with Built For The Tropics Feat. RENAE, out today alongside her self-directed video (coming August 7th).  Written on her backing vocalist’s living room floor, the song dives headfirst into a world of gritty possibility and moody fantasy, exploring her bisexuality and nightlife culture.

Based in Naarm/Melbourne, Emma Yue is an indie-folk songstress and self-confessed purveyor of the phrase ‘do it for the plot’.

Built For The Tropics brings off kilter drum grooves and cutting guitars to a fun-seeking state of mind; “I just wanted to write a fun song I could dance around to on stage. A lot of my songs have a lot of emotional baggage, so I really zeroed in on trying to write about something low-stakes and groovy” says Emma. “I’ve never really explored liking women in such a casual way before, and it was exciting to bring a level of light-heartedness to a part of my self identity that hasn’t always been smooth sailing”. Recorded with acclaimed Naarm producer James Seymour (Merpire, FEELDS) at Melrose Place on Wurundjeri Country, her “harmless one-night crush” turned from a magnetic fantasy into a garage rock queer anthem.
