Beneath its upbeat grooves and satin ribbon charm, I Almost Fell For It presents a self-empowering celebration about reclaiming your voice. Alongside is a full-length music video that embodies a spring-like playfulness.
Reminiscent of your favourite pop girlies Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo, I Almost Fell For It is addictively danceable. A recipe of warm, honey vocals, bright leading guitar riffs paired with Heleina’s sarcastic and playful lyricism make it hard not to sing along – in true Gen Z fashion, she writes “Oh no! I’m just a girl!” Yet beneath its infectious hooks, the track doesn’t hesitate to call out toxic mind games, declaring: “Master manipulator, no I won’t see you later! I’ll save for something greater, so I won’t see you later!”
Building on the momentum of her previous release, Touch, described as an “absolute banger” by This Song is Yours, I Almost Fell For It stays true to Heleina’s style by pairing glossy pop production with an unflinching look at emotional deception. Co-written with Elin Saldberg (Songwriter / Harry Styles’ Bass Player) and Alisa Xayalith (The Naked and Famous), she describes it as a song about “finding clarity by calling out manipulation, and laughing at how close you came to falling for it.”
The single arrives alongside a music video directed by Felice Vale, expanding on the track’s themes with equal parts wit and charm. On the creative vision behind the video, director Felice Vale shares “this video is a tale about two girls who won’t let competition or being too serious ruin their day. It was pouring rain but lo and behold – by the time I arrived, the rain had subsided and the sun actually came out. Sometimes, the video decides what it will be.” Set in a tennis court during a pastel-hued spring day, the music video is playful, nostalgic and effortlessly chic.
