Six years in the making and today ‘FALL FROM THE LIGHT’, the highly anticipated new album from hip hop icons HILLTOP HOODS, has arrived.
“This album has been an exercise in patience. Six years is a long time between albums, but there’s a good reason for that. There was a lot happening, in the world and in our lives. But it turns out (from my perspective anyway), that time was the album’s strength, not its weakness. We’ve never been so thorough, so pedantic with an album before. The result is something that’s been carefully crafted with an extreme attention to detail. It’s an album that we’re really proud of, and a body of music that we can’t wait to share with everyone.” – Suffa
“We put more years into it than any other of our albums because we wanted it to be our best work to date. Putting it out after so long feels more monumental and exciting than ever.” – Pressure
Featuring singles The Gift Feat. Marlon, Don’t Happy, Be Worry, Laced Up and Never Coming Home Feat. SIX60, the 12-track offering takes listeners on a journey that feels as ambitious and triumphant for the fans, as it has been for Suffa, Pressure and Debris themselves.
Blending fun, vulnerability and vignettes that highlight their masterful cadence and technical flow, the ninth record from Hilltop Hoods wastes no time in getting to work upon arrival. Produced by One Above with additional production by Sesta and Suffa, ‘Fall From The Light’ was recorded in Adelaide, Darwin, Melbourne and New Zealand and features a range of special guests.
Album opener, Fall From The Light, reintroduces the listener to the expansive realm of sound the Hoods have been building for close to twenty years. Featuring long-time collaborator, vocalist Nyassa (also heard on The Moth), the title track is an impactful moment of re-entry for artist and fan alike – a three-minute welcome back into the fold.
New focus single Rage Against The Fatigue, with its booming horns and vibrant keys, channels the energy of insomnia, providing one of the many relatable moments ‘Fall From The Light’ has to offer.
Monday August 4th will see Hilltop Hoods premiere the Rage Against The Fatigue official video on their YouTube channel at 7.30pm AEST – CLICK HERE TO SET A REMINDER
The Omelette meanwhile, is a darkly funny insight into the vague memories attached to losing yourself under the influence – navigating heady times in realising certain substances aren’t for everyone. With time and experience, sometimes a cheeky brain scramble will bring clarity.
The release of ‘Fall From The Light’ comes off the back of the Hoods claiming 3 spots in triple j’s publicly voted Hottest 100 Australian Songs of All Time, with their 2003 breakout song The Nosebleed Section (2003) taking out the #2 position. (#64 – Cosby Sweater & #73 – 1955 Feat Montaigne, Tom Thum).
As if this result wasn’t impressive enough, Hilltop Hoods ‘NEVER COMING HOME TOUR’ is shaping up to be one of the fastest selling Australian tours of the year. With the national arena tour now sold out due to overwhelming demand, second shows have been added in Sydney at Qudos Bank Arena on Fri Feb 27thand in Melbourne at Rod Laver Arena on Fri Mar 6th, proving that Hilltop Hoods trajectory is far from slowing down.
Next stop for Hilltop Hoods is their EU/UK Tour which kicks off next week with headline/festival dates including Tauberta (GER), Lakelive (CHE) and Electric Picnic (IRE) before returning to Australia to headline Big Pineapple Festival (QLD), Handpicked Festival (SA) and more, to be announced.
