Ipswich singer-songwriter Damien J. Johnson and The Damien J. Johnson Band today releases their new single, I Don’t Listen To The Radio.
The track marks the third and final single to be released ahead of the band’s forthcoming debut album and continues the group’s commitment to authentic, performance-driven recording.
Recorded in Ipswich, Queensland, I Don’t Listen To The Radio was tracked live in the studio in a single take, with the full band performing together without the use of a click track. The approach was a deliberate effort to capture the spontaneity, chemistry and imperfections that make live music compelling.
Rather than relying on extensive studio editing, the recording preserves the natural ebb and flow of a real band performance. Only minimal overdubs were added following the initial take, allowing the energy and personality of the original session to remain front and centre.
I Don’t Listen To The Radio reflects the band’s belief that music should sound human. In an era where recordings are often heavily edited and quantised, the track embraces the nuances of musicians playing together in real time, creating a sound that feels honest, organic and timeless.
The release follows the success of previous singles from the upcoming album, including Lappin’, which found support on streaming playlists and connected strongly with audiences, and Wacol Station, which showcased the band’s blend of country, bluegrass and blues influences.
With I Don’t Listen To The Radio, Damien J. Johnson and The Damien J. Johnson Band offer another glimpse into a debut album built on authenticity, strong songwriting and the enduring power of musicians performing together in a room.
