Naarm/Melbourne-based indie-rock artist Jacob Fitzgerald has just dropped his feel-good new single Muse – produced by the artist himself, and long-time friend/collaborator Brent Quirk, with mastering by George Georgiadis (Gang of Youths, The Vanns, Tyne James-Organ) at Little Wing Sound.
With a meticulously executed sense of urgency, Muse swiftly leans into its pulsing verses, before a wall of searing guitars launches its soaring and hook-laden chorus; shining a light on the endearing vocals of the affable frontman. Taking cues from the likes of Royal Blood, The Black Keys and The Raconteurs, the track continues to navigate flawlessly, as the mood tapers into a brooding breakdown, then aptly transitioning into its gradual crescendo, laced with deftly composed guitar.
Jacob recalls the inspiration for Muse: “Essentially, there are times where I’m writing about love/lust, but I’m not actively in love or possessing a similar feeling. In those situations, I found I naturally gravitate to basing the subject around this one particular person. To be honest, I don’t even really know her, but she somehow is tattooed into my subconscious and is someone I can draw inspiration from, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I dunno, she just has the ‘thing’.â€
To celebrate the release of Muse, Jacob Fitzgerald and his band will traverse the Australian East Coast supporting Selfish Sons, performing six shows, including stops in Naarm/Melbourne, Meanjin/Brisbane, Yugambeh/Gold Coast and Eora/Sydney. He’s also sold out headline shows and supported the likes of The Delta Riggs, Fergus James and John Floreani (Trophy Eyes).
Previous releases have been strongly supported by the likes of triple j Unearthed, MTV, Music Feeds, Coles Radio, tastemaker blogs, community radio, and featured in Spotify’s Australian Viral 50.
In the coming weeks, Jacob Fitzgerald will release an accompanying music video for Muse.
