Returning in 2025 with their melancholic anthem pity party, Meanjin/Brisbane-based alt-pop duo JUNO deliver a angst-filled pop/rock 90’s and early 2000’s inspired anthem that brings a raw and unapologetic energy to moments of personal struggle.
Featuring grungy guitars and shimmering 80s synth, the song captures the feeling of frustration and emotional turmoil, delivering each line with a brutal honesty that cuts deep. The bold, reflective lyrics dive into self-doubt, isolation, and the chaos of trying to keep it together, all while confronting those dark, ugly truths we often hide from the world. It’s a track you’d scream in your car on your worst days, letting the music echo your inner battle. It’s cathartic and defiant, a perfect soundtrack for anyone who needs to rage against their own vulnerabilities and get lost in the raw emotion of it all.
Kahlia talks about the inspirations behind the lyrics of pity party: “In an online world with constant access to everyone’s social media and ‘highlight reels’, life can feel like a game of comparison where you’re always led to diminish your own experiences. This song confesses, in a tongue-in-cheek way, some of the thoughts and feelings I feel worst about, as I try and wrangle them and make it all make sense. It feels uncomfortably honest, but I know so many people who have felt the same way, so it felt good to write something we could all scream when we’re low.”
JUNO have been busy touring Australia on a string of national support slots including girli (UK), Blu Detiger (US), Peking Duk, Caity Baiser (UK), Anna of the North (NO), Drax Project, Eves Karydas Pacific Avenue, Cody Jon, Chloe Dadd, Selfish Sons, Adrian Dzvuke, and more.
2025 is set to be a massive year for the duo as they set out on their first national headline tour in April, in support of their upcoming EP ‘pity party’ (out April 17), followed by a UK tour supporting NZ act Drax Project in May.
