LAHGO Enter Exciting New Chapter With Strutting New Single ‘What I Need’

Eora/Sydney-based indie-rock-pop duo lahgo return with new single, What I Need (out today via MGM). Produced by Ethan Reginato (Holly Hebe, Meg Mac, Charli Lucas).

Driven by steadfast bass guitar, fuzz-laden guitar leads and lead singer Mel Bailey‘s commanding and charismatic vocal delivery, What I Need is a swaggering powerhouse of a track. The single balances raw alternative grit with polished alt-pop precision, exploring the fine line between supporting the people you love and being honest enough to help them grow.

“I wanted to capture the complex relationship I have with my sister and how difficult it can be to navigate at times,” confesses Bailey. “She’s my favourite person in the world, and someone I’ve looked up to my whole life. As inspiring and as loving as our relationship is, it’s also honest, direct and sometimes confrontational.

There’s a constant push and pull between wanting the people you love to tell you you’re doing everything right, and knowing that what you really need is for them to be honest about your flaws and the times you’ve got it wrong. I think the strongest relationships are the ones where you can support each other unconditionally while still holding each other accountable.”

Available on all streaming platforms from today, What I Need will be accompanied by a fans-first physical release. The What I Need CD will give fans access to an additional two unreleased tracks, unavailable anywhere other than on the band’s upcoming 10-date East Coast Tour or via a hidden online merch store which is only accessible to fans on their mailing list.

What I Need and the accompanying tracks are the first to arise out of their studio collaboration with ‘of-the-moment’ producer Ethan Reginato, which aims to combine the excitement of lahgo’s recently sold-out live shows, mixed with crisp arrangements and pop sensibilities.

“We wanted to give the fans that come to our shows access to these new recordings before anyone else,” explained lahgo. This collectible memento will be super limited and is a preview of a longer-form release due in 2027, which will be more widely available. But for now, this music is just for lahgo’s community.

Topping all this off is a 10-date East Coast Tour, including stops across New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, and two prodigious support slots with The Angels and Superjesus at Leichhardt Oval, and The Living End in Thirroul.

lahgo have proven themselves as a formidable live act, stacking up a string of sold-out Eora/Sydney headline shows and supporting some of Australia’s biggest rock and indie heavyweights, including The Terrys, DZ Deathrays, Don West, Le Shiv, and more. They’ve also frequented Australian festival line-ups, featuring on Party in the Paddock, Bonzaki Music Festival and the King Street Crawl 2026.

At the heart of lahgo’s artistry is also an ethos of community and advocacy. In May 2026, the duo created CHIXXX TO THE FRONT, an event celebrating female-fronted bands that sold out the Botany View Hotel in Eora/Sydney’s inner west. lahgo also regularly give back through their live performances, donating proceeds from select shows to the likes of The Full Stop Foundation (supporting victim-survivors of domestic violence) and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
