Brisbane’s progressive metalcore powerhouse Aeon Nexus are back with ferocious new single Black Mass and its accompanying music video, releasing worldwide on April 9th – but we’ve got the EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE right here!
This release comes barely six months after the release of their debut EP ‘Positive Disintegration’ in late 2024, which placed the quartet on the map of Australian heavy music as an exciting new talent to watch. In the week leading up to the EP release, Aeon Nexus were selected by Wall of Sound as that week’s feature artist for their “Aussie Heavyweights and Hitmakers” playlist, and within a fortnight, the band had amassed 25,000 views on their Sony Catchlight Film Festival award-nominated music video for single The Choice.
The brutality of Black Mass represents both an evolution and a departure from Aeon Nexus’ previous ethereal, prog-infused sound as the quartet indulge their theatrical side and venture into darker territory. Taking influence from extreme metal heavyweights such as Arch Enemy and Make Them Suffer, blistering metalcore riffs and scorching screams blaze like wildfire through the 3-minute track, tempered with elegant piano and pulsating synths.
For the production of Black Mass, Aeon Nexus reprised their previous collaborations with Chris Themelco of Monolith Studios Melbourne, who mixed and mastered the track, and Harry Verity of Verity Music for drum tracking and engineering. Track artwork was created by Michael Robertson.
Filmed and produced by longtime friend and collaborator of the band Seabass Snaps, the music video for Black Mass depicts the track’s core theme of “absolute power corrupting absolutely”, in a visceral display of rapidly building paranoia and blood-soaked body horror.
Aeon Nexus will be celebrating the launch of Black Mass at their upcoming show supporting Roronoah at Vinnies Dive in the Gold Coast on April 10th, alongside RVN/NT and Verdict. Purchase tickets HERE.
