As 2025 quickly comes to a close, Melbourne/Naarm-newcomer Olivia Joy has entered the scene in the nick of time with her debut raw folk/rock single Stranger Danger – premiering exclusively with Good Call Live.

For fans of boygenius, Ruby Gill and Julia Jacklin, the single speaks of being seen by someone in a way you have never considered seeing yourself, and the way that feels. With simple strummed electric guitar and thoughtful harmonies, the song is a deeply confronting, yet deeply comforting track, about finding and accepting this new kind of love. “I’m just a stranger to you. Am I a danger to myself… am I afraid of something else?” she repeats, speaking to herself through the song. The song perfectly blends earworm melodies with thought-provoking content to create one of the most intriguing debuts we’ve heard in a while.

“Stranger Danger was written about meeting someone and feeling that instant connection, like you have known them your whole life. But, also, the contrast between that feeling and feeling seen by someone you don’t know that well. It can be scary to be vulnerable, and Stranger Danger delves straight into those fears”, says Olivia on the track.

Recorded at Good Mood Studios in Melbourne, Olivia Joy wrote, arranged and played all parts on the recording except for the drums which were provided by Rhys Oscar.

Self- described as ‘sad lesbian music’ Olivia Joy creates deep, introspective lyrics and wistful melodies are sure to tug at the heartstrings of all. After graduating from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 2016, she continued to work on her craft whilst working backstage in music, radio, and theatre, but with her latest body of work, ‘The Critic’, due for release early 2026, she has decided it’s time to come out of the shadows and into the spotlight with her own unique brand of music.

Stranger Danger will be officially released tomorrow – November 7th
