“A cute idea and The Tryouts bring it to life with an approachable and gleeful charm.” Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J

“Good song ridiculously catchy!” – Lachlan Wyllie, FBi Radio

“‘Washer’ is a perky indie-pop number centred on Reed and Macmichael’s dual lead vocals. The track’s playful bounce recalls artists like San Cisco”Music Feeds

The Tryouts have an origin story that rivals the plot of a Netflix-special.

Both based in Toronto, Chelsea hired David to accompany her on a tour through French Canada. They knew each other a little prior to this, but by the end of the tour their feelings couldn’t be ignored and in a burst of passion, Chelsea asked David to marry her or never see her again as her visa was running out. David happily and ridiculously agreed.

Then, in a wild attempt to escape the claustrophobia of Toronto during the pandemic, they made the move to Australia in search of a warmer place to wait out the mayhem and start their new life.

Together they fell in love with Australia, their new life, and the music that started it all. This is their sophomore single ‘It Is What It Is’ from forthcoming debut EP ‘Nothing Bad is Ever Going To Happen’ out October 26th.

Filled to the brim with joie-de-vivre, this confident yet playful debut EP is a fantastic introduction to the latest Australian-based indie-pop duo will remind you of frontrunners San Cisco, The Jungle Giants, Wafia and Kira Piru.

It Is What It Is sets the scene for the dynamic between the pair and features rock guitars, playful vocals and complementary drums that packs equal parts power with refinement.

“This song is about the desperation of trying your best to fit in and getting no results whatsoever.”The Tryouts

This single is the follow up to their debut single Washer, which, after a premiere with Music Feeds, garnered praise from community radio tastemakers such as FBi, JOY FM, RTR FM, 4ZZZ, CHY FM, 2SER,  Central Coast Radio, Coast FM, 89.7FM and 97.9FM just to name a few.

Recorded at Rancho Relaxo Studios by Shaun Gaida (The Mountains, East Journey, Tiger Widow, Jones Rival). The track was then mixed and produced by Jack Moffitt (The Preatures, Isabella Manfredi,) and mastered by Andrew Edgson (Matt Corby, 5 Seconds of Summer, The Kite String Tangle) at 301 Studios.

“Getting to work with Jack Moffitt was such a treat.  He approached the songs as they deserved to be treated with a minimalistic clean style of production that leaned into the bands strengths.”
