Having spent much of 2024 doing what they do best, touring across the UK/Europe, and playing a 44 date national Australian tour supporting Grinspoon, it’s bewildering that Press Club had time to put the finishing touches on their new album.

Today, the Naarm/Melbourne four piece announce the independent release of their fourth album, with distribution through Inertia (Australia) and Cargo (UK/EU). ‘To All The Ones That I Love’ will be released on Friday May 2nd, with double single Tightrope / Vacate out today, as premiered on 6Music UK with Huw Stephens.

‘To All The Ones That I Love’ was recorded at the band’s own studio in Footscray with guitarist Greg Rietwyk on production and mixing, before the album was mastered by Kris Crummett (Closure in Moscow, Dune Rats, Currents). Encapsulating the maturity of the band, the album offers the listener a ride through various genres and traverses themes of introspection, growth, change and learning from past mistakes.

Lead singer Natalie Foster reflects on the new single, “Tightrope is about hitting that point where you’re done trying to fix things, becoming frustrated and numb taking on everybody else’s thoughts, worries and expectations. It’s that feeling of barely holding it together, like you’re walking a tightrope on the edge of a breakdown. Musically, it’s a bit of an ode to The Hives, written after meeting them at Hurricane festival in Germany.

Uncharacteristic of their usual songwriting practices, Tightrope was built around the guitar riff in the verse. It had a particular punctuation that sort of informed what the overall feel of the chorus was going to. “It was one of those songs that came together pretty organically on its own, we didn’t have to bang our heads against our instruments for a week or anything”, Adds the band’s bassist Iain MacRae.

Meanwhile, Vacate was written with the intention of a long repetitive form, one that builds on itself the entire time. Sonically inspired by the atmospheric guitar parts played by Robert Fripp on Heroes by David Bowie, and the staccato deep lead guitar lines that appear across the New Order and Joy Division catalogues.

Today the band also announce they will play two home town launch shows. Taking over The Tote for both an All Ages and 18+ shows on Saturday May 3rd. With thanks to The Push All Ages Grant Program for assistance in funding the all ages show.

Recent singles Wasted Days and Champagne & Nikes appear on the new album and have seen the band land on the cover of Spotify Local Noise, achieve playlisting on the likes of Spotify All New Rock, New Music Friday AU/NZ, The Local List, Rock Out, Student’s Union, Fresh Finds as well as Apple Music’s Good Times, New Music Daily, Breaking Rock, New In Rock and New In Indie.

Press Club are Natalie Foster (vocals, guitar), Greg Rietwyk (guitar), Iain MacRae (bass) and Frank Lees (drums). The band’s previous album, ‘Endless Motion’ debuted at #3 on the AIR Independent Label chart, landed Album of the Week at Double J and was nominated for Best Independent Punk Album at the AIR (Australian Independent Record Labels Association) Awards.

Earlier discography includes ‘Wasted Energy’ (#4 in the AIR Independent Labels Album Chart), inclusion in Kerrang!’s Top 50 albums and #1 Album of the month in Germany’s Visions magazine. And debut album ‘Late Teens’ (2019) which launched the band on to the scene with a bevy of support including additions at triple j and FBi radio.
