Returning quickly off the back of acclaimed 2022 album ‘i thought my name was cursed’, New Zealand born / Gold Coast based multi-instrumentalist, Saint Lane returns with his beguiling sophomore record, ‘CRYING IN THE PORSCHE’.

Equipped with a series of anecdotes fit for a late night talk show, Lane doesn’t shy from getting personal – exploring themes of addiction and loss within his lyrics and reflecting on some of the darker moments of his life and career so far.

“Last year I got out of a seven year relationship with someone who I will always love and will always be a massive part of my life. I got addicted to going on dates, it was really strange, I did like a decade worth of dating in the space of about four months just to distract myself,” Lane reflects. “I became completely dependent on alcohol. The relationship ended just as I was rolling out my last album so my career was at an all time high and life at an all time low. This album tries to document this brief period.”

Including the late night charm of 3:33 and the bedroom-pop infused IT AIN’T SODA!, CRYING IN THE PORSCHE is a nine-track genre-hopping journey that showcases both Lane’s experimental nature and his passion for pure DIY.

Whilst the majority of the album was recorded in long time friend and collaborator, Logan Preste’s bedroom, tracks like i was unaware and mae stemmed from sentimental voice memos, giving Lane the opportunity to include some of his dearest friends on the record.

This includes Denny Hilder (Peach Fur), who features on the album’s focus track GOLD REVOLVER and the accompanying music video, which they shot together with MonteeMadet in Charlotte’s Pass NSW.

“‘Gold Revolver’ was written from the perspective of James Brown during his divorce in 1988 – James Brown is one of my favourite artists of all time, The Payback is one of my favourite albums,” says Lane.

“I read his autobiography and it was just incredible, this man’s story. The way he spoke about his divorce taking place while his career was skyrocketing was such an interesting juxtaposition… I had to write about it.”

Known for charismatic performances that make Saint Lane a sought-after act on any line up, seeing him tour with Lime Cordiale and bbno$, ‘CRYING IN THE PORSCHE’ marks Lane’s arrival as a complete artist – infusing his signature sound and refusal to stick to the status quo with dollops of nostalgia, sentiment and intimate storytelling.
