Following three months of teasing – that eagle-eyed fans might have noticed kicking off at Melbourne’s Homegrown Festival – Australian favourites Slowly Slowly return with anthemic new single “Gimme The Wrench” and announce their signing to Nettwerk Music Group. You can listen to the track HERE.

Taking inspiration from the iconic Good Will Hunting scene that sees Will choose the wrench over the stick and belt, the track is quintessential Slowly Slowly – layering catchy, groove-filled melodies that are as at home in the mosh pit as they are made for hip shaking, with frontman Ben Stewart’s vulnerable songwriting delivered with a tongue-in-cheek wink.

Centred around the idea of not requesting leniency in an effort to test yourself, the track – produced by Courtney Ballard (5 Seconds of Summer, Waterparks, State Champs, Stand Atlantic, Good Charlotte) and mixed by UK heavyweight Jon Gilmore (The 1975, Nothing But Thieves, Middle Kids, Wolf Alice) – was Ben endeavouring to create an Eye Of The Tiger-esque pump up anthem for himself as he was heading into a highly stressful period of life.

Of the track, Ben says, “I knew that for the foreseeable future I would be spinning plates across multiple projects, family, touring and I wanted a song that would pump me up for it. There’s obviously a lot of reward in stretching out of your depth, and the metaphor of choosing the difficult path, when there are obvious ones of least resistance, seemed to resonate with me.”

What has always distinguished Slowly Slowly from their peers is the band’s unique mix of introspective life reflections, heartfelt narratives, and sensitive sadness blended with clever wordplay that is as thoughtful as it is bold. Leaning even further into the refreshing pop sensibilities the four-piece uncovered on their 2022 album ‘Daisy Chain’, Slowly Slowly’s next chapter – led by new single Gimme The Wrench – is set to be their most adventurous yet.

What began in 2015 with debut single Empty Lungs has grown to become more than just a band deserving of the indie rock icon status they are ever-nearing – surrounding them is a community of loyal and passionate fans built across almost a decade. With four albums – 2016’s ‘Chamomile’, 2018’s ‘St. Leonards’, 2020’s ‘Race Car Blues’ (#7 ARIA Charts), and 2022’s ‘Daisy Chain’ (#5 ARIA Charts) – and hundreds of live shows, including sold-out headline runs, festival stages including Good Things Festival, Splendour in The Grass, NYE On The Hill, & Groovin The Moo, and support slots alongside the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Amy Shark, and Ocean Alley, Slowly Slowly have become an unshakeable musical force and Australian indie-rock favourites.

This September, Slowly Slowly will make their way to the UK and Europe, supporting fellow Aussies Stand Atlantic in Manchester, Glasgow, London, Berlin, Cologne, and more. Full dates are below, and tickets are on sale now.
