GRXCE are back in the driver’s seat bringing us their latest heartbreak anthem ‘Spit It Out’; oozing with the drive and conviction that makes them one of Eora / Sydney’s finest indie-rock outfits. After a whirlwind year releasing their debut EP ‘Sorry For Being Sad’ alongside its sister short film (which they screened to a sold out cinema in the heart of Sydney) it’s only right that their latest single punches listeners straight in the jaw.

GRXCE aren’t slowing down, if anything they are exceeding their limits, pushing beyond the glittering pop hooks of their previous record to prove their bite is indeed as loud as their bark.

Their new track, Spit It Out is the most gut-filled edition of GRXCE yet immediately jumping out of your headphones with a larger than life guitar hook that gets you head banging even before the verse hits. The track paints a picture of a relationship where the protagonist can’t help but try to fix their partner and push them towards their potential only to discover that as soon as the relationship ended their efforts were a waste. It’s a reminder that it is never our responsibility to change someone and that if someone isn’t willing to help themself there is no amount of support or love you can give to make them act otherwise.

“When I wrote this song I was going through my angry stage of a break up – I felt so disappointed watching someone I loved act in ways that weren’t in their best interest, to see them change and shift from the person I knew into someone who leaned far too heavily on their vices. I think I had this idea that I would have left a lasting impact on this person, that I would be able to see the difference I had made. I felt angry at them for promising they’d be better, I felt angry at myself for not doing enough for them, and I felt angry in general for feeling so far away from someone I wanted to support and uplift. Really whilst it might seem like I am taking a dig at them in the lyrics, it’s an internal frustration aimed at myself for holding these insanely high expectations of myself and of this other person when in fact we are all just damaged people trying our best. I quickly realised it’s not my job to ‘fix’ another person and that a person’s actions when they are struggling aren’t necessarily the best indicator of their character or their care for you” says lead singer, Jamila Grace on the writing of Spit It Out.

Dropping alongside the single is a stunning visualiser shot and directed by Nathan Rathsam (Dust, EGOISM). The visuals are an homage to the short film the three-piece dropped in 2024, shot in Marrickville’s Mothership Studios amongst a sea of red velvet cinema chairs, it’s the other side of the coin; the protagonist watching their own past and relationships on the screen.

Spit It Out is also the band’s first completely self-produced track, mixed and produced by their drummer Alex Berger in his home studio in Earlwood. GRXCE dabbled in this DIY approach for previous singles Everything I Wanted and What U Want which featured Alex as a co-producer alongside the likes of Jackson Barclay (Vera Blue, Maddy Jane) and Aidan Hogg (G-Flip, Sofia Isella, Selfish Sons) however this track (and the tracks to follow) are the first full departure from an external source of inspiration. Spit It Out is overflowing with self-conviction, a true display of trust in the band’s craft and the sound they’ve spent years curating. Sonically the track walks the line between the pop sensibilities of previously released tracks whilst bringing in the fuzzy, grunge textures of newer inspirations such as Momma, Annie Di Russo & Blondshell perfectly bridging the two worlds together into a unique GRXCE universe.

Spit It Out marks a brand new era for GRXCE and lucky for you it’s just the beginning. You can catch GRXCE play the new single alongside old faves and more unreleased content at their headline shows in Wollongong & Sydney as they come off the back of support slots with heavyweights The Rubens and appearances at Yours & Owls and Sham Fest.

GRXCE is one to watch and it won’t be long before their stadium-sized sound is bursting beyond the walls of your local establishment.
